Perhaps you have seen the film titled Shangri Lah. It is a wonderful story about a mountain location very high amid ice and snow and almost on top of the world. There is a certain feeling of tranquility and peace about this picture, even as it were, about every stone and flower that is being shown and every move the people in it make.
Of course, when we go back to the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden we have the prototype of this kind of peaceful living and no evil. If we look around in our world today we have little hope of finding places like these nearby or somewhere where we can afford to travel to. This means to me that quiet solitude and stillness as well as peace with all around is elusive.
However there is one place where we can try to establish conditions like the above mentioned and that is within ourself. In our heart of hearts there is or should be quiet and a feeling of being good to all, not only my loved one, and a sincere wish to share happiness and peace once they are established within us also with others.
It seems the big question for many of the younger generation today is how do I find peace? Is it possible to feel quiet within in a world that is so loud and fast moving and where people are so fragmented. It will be more difficult to feel this quiet attitude in ourself if we are constantly on the go. Often we do several things in one evening or night because we are restless. We have this big urge to move and shake and to keep in touch.
Here is the point I am trying to make. We usually do what is most important to us first. And I venture to say that many put peace of mind and soul last after all the other stuff in life. Surely we canot all be monks in a cloister. However we can try to put some of the high values we long for and yearn for back on top of our priorities.
And one more last thought. A lot of activity in our younger years is natural and to be expected. So, perhaps, we need to wait some time before we can attain a serene outlook until after we have accomplished what we have to do first. We may have to go along with the dream of peace and tranquility until we can afford to devote more time to it and more of our energies. I wish you inner strength in the meantime to cope with the here and now.
