It's not just about the body, it's about the body image.
Focus on the inches, not the weight. Particularly for women who are already within the ideal body weight range, weight might even increase as exercise is increased. Muscle weighs more than fat. Isn't it better to look toned at 145 than jiggly at 135?
Walk, run, dance. It doesn't matter what sort of exercise you do. Just do something, do it often, and enjoy it! It is significantly easier to lose love handles when you love how you are losing them.
Eat, eat, eat. It has been proven time and time again that starving yourself is not an effective way to lose weight, and it definitely will not help you tone up. Eat small, healthy meals throughout the day. It will keep up your blood sugar and keep you happier.
Indulge in moderation. Eat a square of delicious chocolate if you have a craving. Cravings are not easily ignored, and any attempts usually result in a big binge later. It is better to have the real thing, just in smaller quantity. Try one of those 100 calorie chocolate bars-quite satisfying, with no guilt.
Accept yourself at your current body status, but know that it can be better and that you can be healthier. After all, it should be about being the best
you
can be. If you love your body and accept the imperfections, your inner peace will be reflected in your appearance and you will look your best regardless of your weight.
Hi Lindsay,
This is an awesome article! I agree with everything you have to say. People worry so much about spending money on losing weight, and going to drastic measures, like starving and depriving themselves, that they ignore common sense rules to getting back to a healthy body weight/size. I used to consider myself a fat skinny person. I was a healthy weight for my height, but i had a lot of jiggle on my bones. since then i have lost 20 lbs through plain old fashioned diet and exercise (and still ate the things i enjoyed, just in moderation), and i have toned up considerably. I am still in a healthy body weight range but look much better and feel great! Thanks for this article.
