This part is about overcoming a major problem of society in order that people can remain at peace, happy, and successful.
People all around the world are disgusted about the rising cost of fuel as well as the domino effects of it. Prime commodities have become more expensive. One officemate shouted: "Revolution !" But then I asked him how a revolution might solve the problem in our country. There was no reply. We are all victims of the same worldwide problem. Can we blame the Oil Producing and Exporting Countries if they think their supply of oil is getting depleted while they see an ongoing high demand for their product ? Don't they have the right to increase their prices following the law of supply and demand ?
Our hope is for good leaders to take initiatives to find a way to make sources of energy more accessible, affordable, and sufficient. Our dependence on oil supply from OPEC or even other oil producing countries should gradually decline and shift towards abundant sources of energy like the sun, the waters, and the wind. A failure to arrive at better sources can push the suffering majority to become chaotic.
May the patience of people extend more time for leaders to come up with immediate to long-term remedies.
This brings us to the role of media, the participation and openness of leaders to encourage the public to cooperate and have more hope, and all other roles to be alligned with a concerted effort towards a brighter future ahead. It is possible to inform the present generation about the prospects of new sources of massive employment when plans are implemented in order to launch one solution after another. But what are these plans ? Whatever they are, it should not convert the earth into ruins as a result of great dissatisfaction over the oil crisis being experienced. It should not destroy dreams of the youth for a better life with their families. Nothing can be gained out of pouring so much anger at fellowmen who are not even the causes of their dissatisfaction. Let no one rock the boat. Therefore, governments should at least partially start showing concrete steps that will benefit people. And the sooner final decisions (about which plans to implement) are made and disclosed to the public, the better for a country to progress in peace.
Hope Versus Chaos and War
What keeps the preference of people for peace is hope. At present, brainstorming activities find it difficult to be logical enough with explaining how an entire human race might be able to overcome the "Oil Crisis". This has been a problem for many consecutive years since 1973. And now, there is a scramble for alternative sources of energy but no clear and concrete, definite, time-bounded, and sure approach to replacing oil as the primary source of energy worldwide.
Some say there can be political repercussions. Russia has become a supplier of oil because the turn of events have made it feasible to tap its available supply. When more wealth goes into that country, the news says its leaders might venture into financing military aggression.
The situation is in fact a challenge to the creativity of mankind. Many nations are attempting to change the way society should live. Japan has been manufacturing wind-based electrical generators on top of buildings. Other countries have windmills. Electric cars have been invented and utilized in Europe. There are also "hybrid" vehicles said to use both electricity and gasoline to run. That means it can run without gasoline. But it can shift to gasoline usage anytime.
We can only guess what might predominate in the future. Perhaps there will be a shift to electricity-based transportation facilities like the Light Railway Transit for mass transport of people to their working places, or like the Bullet Train underground, so that the main power generator supplying electricity will be the "controlled" user of energy sources like crude oil or gasoline, wind, solar cells, and even secured neuclear reactors.
Our changing world should never overlook the plight of the poor and less privileged during these hard times. For they represent the masses. Their hopes are simple. People need jobs. They need sources of livelihood and basic needs to survive. The question is how this oil crisis can be turned into an opportunity to provide the masses with new opportunities for survival using simple talents. Perhaps more mass transit facilities should be constructed towards potential work areas outside the congested urban areas. That will mean a rise in demand for laborers to construct. Why not create these mass transport facilities in the direction of vast farmlands ? The trend is towards nationwide electrification anyway.
Actually, there can be many similar ideas worth implementing in order to immediately address the needs of the greater majority while top leaders are still finding ways to change the way we live in order to overcome effects of the oil crisis. The rich should not keep their wealth but distribute most of it by engaging in such developments.
Let us hope and pray to be able to keep people busy with some things productive. And we also need to give our leaders more time to invent the right plans and make the right moves for their implementation so that this oil crisis will someday become a thing of the past. That way, our world can live in peace and more progress.
