The view of happiness in the world today is not what God wants. Some people believe that items will make you happy, others believe relationships will. In Matthew 5:3-12 it states what happiness is in Gods eyes. This is what we all should believe happiness is. They are called the Beatitudes. People today think that happiness is getting what you want, but it really depends on your Christ-like character.
The world thinks that happiness is getting what you want and desire. It is all about having more and getting more. This can cause bad things to happen such as stealing and murder. People also say that love will make you happy. The only love that will make you happy is that with God and people don't understand that. I agree that friendships are a good thing and I like them, but we all neglect that relationship with God and that is where we are wrong.
Jesus says happiness depends on Christ-like character. He says this in Matthew 5:3-12. They are examples of what we can do to be happy and they are called the beatitudes. One of the beatitudes is “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled”. This means that you long to be and act like Jesus not just being a good person and that is what will make you happy. Another example is the beatitude that says “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God”. This means that you will be happy when you have a single God and you praise him. These verses tell us that God wants us to have a good relationship with him and by doing that we can be happy.
It is really important that we know that God wants to have a good relationship with us but we need to put in effort too. The world pushes us into thinking we need stuff and objects to make us happy. For example, there are more commercials trying to sell us things during a thirty minute period then the television show. All non-Christians I have met will go along with the media encouraging you to find that object that will keep you smiling. I have learned that it is much easier to go along with the way others think instead of doing what you know God wants you to do. But following God will allow you to have the happiness that will keep you smiling and you will be making God happy as well.
God wants us to be happy and objects can do that for a while but not forever, but God's love can make you happy forever. I believe that it is easier to do what everyone else is doing but God wants us to be happy while having Christ-like character. People today think that happiness is getting what you want, but it really depends on Christ-like character.
