How to be Happy Every Day

Being happy is vital to our mental and physical welfare. We can't always make life the way we want it but it is easy to be happy every day.

We all know that we can’t be happy all the time. There are bound to be times when we are really down in the dumps and can’t see a way forward. That’s an inevitable part of life or, is it? Everyone of us can find happiness every day by focusing our thinking. It’s easier than you think.

There are only three things in life that cause unhappiness: health, money and other people. All three of these can be dealt with by one simple technique. That doesn’t mean that they can be simply resolved, or made to disappear because dealing with them, now, in the present is what we aim to do using this technique.

Take a close look at your worries, no matter what they are and you will find that most of them are connected to the past and what has already happened and the rest are connected to what is yet to come, the future. They are rooted in regret and fear.

What has already happened can’t be changed, so it’s pointless dwelling on it. Let it go.

What is yet to come isn’t a problem yet, so don’t address it until you get to it.

So, you are left with now, this moment. Most of your worries have gone because they belong to the past and the future, not this moment.

Now, close your eyes and picture yourself as a huge kite, flying way up in the sky and looking down on creation. Enjoy the seas, the mountains, the trees and the bird flying past below you. You are free to float higher but your kite string is taught and straight and well controlled. You are tethered to ‘now’, you can’t wander over into the past, or the future. There is only now.

This is a wonderful exercise in being happy, not ecstatically happy, but just relaxed and contented inside. When life feel out of control, this is something we can make happen every day.

#3 Worrying about the future and all the 'what ifs' can lead to mental health problems, depression and other conditions. Being happy today and dealing with what is here today is enough for anyone. What's the point in worrying about things that haven't happened that's the point. That doesn't mean don't plan. just don't stress over it!
