It is What Keeps Me Going

Is there a time in your life when you feel like you are at the bottom of a pit? Ever felt quitting or losing hope?

There are times in my life when I am ready to quit and give up. There a lot of these instances when it seems that there is no hope, no light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. But everytime I come upon these instances and situations in life, I always go back into certain sayings I encountered during the journey in my life. These sayings keep me pushing upward and forward, not letting me quit and give up. Aside from prayers, quotes and sayings about possitivity and determination and hope simply helps arouse the "life" in me.

I would like to share a few of these sentences that really helped me in a way...

"Don't give up when you're hardest hit, it's when things seems worst that you must not quit" -- Anonymous

The first time I encountered this sentence was when I auditioned for an MP (Military Police) position, way back in my secondary years. The training was really tough that I wanted to quit. There were even instances when I thought it was over, but then it's not yet over. Another set of exercises were given. It was really tiring! I could feel as if my bones were cracking (I was so skinny at that time...), I never thought I'd survive -- all in the name of a good grade.

"But you are in the driver's seat, and you can determine the direction you want tomorrow to go in." -- Collin McCarty

I've heard this sentence (though not in the same, exact way) a couple of times already. I heard this from friends who wanted to cheer things up and I definitely believed in this. In fact, positively thinking that I can do anything with my previous life (which I despise), provided me a happy and satisfied present and probably future life. Thinking that if I want things to be better, I have to act upon it and it should be me who would determine my life (except though if there's Divine Intervention).

"You have choice. You can select joy over despair. You can select happiness over tears. You can select action over apathy. You can select growth over stagnation. You can select you." -- Leo Buscaglia

Yes, we all have choices. I believe there is no such thing as "no choice". There are instances when we thought we had no choice, but the truth is, we do have one. We actually have a choice, and that is to select the best that suits the common good. Even on a personal level, making sacrifices is part of our choices, but then again, we have to align these choices for the common good of all.

"For every "should've" you wish you'd done, acknowledge something you're glad you did." -- Eric T. Moore

Should've are a product of our choices, right? We were not able to do these things because we chose the other option. An option which we thought was the best. Think of it this way, if it were not for the "other option" that you chose, you would not have what you have right now, you would not be who you are right now and you would not be where you are right now.

"Thinking like a winner means not always having to defeat someone else. It means being able to grow from a situation in which you fail to reach your goal." -- Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

It is very frustrating at times when you want to accomplish a particular goal and yet, it is not just meant for you. It is indeed frustrating when you have done your very best, but nothing happens. I've been in these situations and my only consolation was believing there's always another round, another set, another chance. It is very stressful when you compete yourself with every people you meet, in eveything you do. Sometimes, a little competition helps, but I do it with myself -- I compete with myself. And when there comes a time that failing is inevitable, all I think is to learn from my failure and do better the next time around.

Setbacks and failures are part of our life. It takes a great attitude to survive all these. If you just believe in yourself and trust yourself that you can do things, nothing is impossible!
