I have been re-reading my copy of “Don't Sweat the Small Stuff…and it's all small stuff” by Richard Carlson, Ph. D., lately and I had forgotten just how incredibly valuable and helpful this book is.

Each section gives you a new, simple to do idea that will improve and enhance your life right away. Last night I read the section that gave advice to write a hand written letter once a week to someone, anyone of your choosing. It explained that you can send the letter or choose not to, but the benefit is still reaped by the act itself.
From my studies in psychology and personal experience I have written several letters before and understood how helpful this exercise can be. However, the book went on to suggest writing a letter to people you admire as well. Before, I had only thought of writing people I actually knew. The thought of writing a letter to someone I admire intrigued me.

So, with the advice I wrote a letter to J.K. Rowling an author I think most writers deeply admire and aspire to be more like. After writing the letter I felt incredible. It was an experience I cannot fully explain except that as I wrote it, I was picturing the letter in J.K. Rowling's hands. This made me feel more connected to a lady who has an unbelievable story and career. It made me feel closer to my dreams just by this connective feeling. It was truly a powerful experience. I do plan on mailing the letter as well.
And, the more that I think about this simple exercise, the more that I realize how powerful it is. As most of us already know, the more that we do to lift others up, praise, and focus on the things in life we want, we dream of and aspire toward the more readily those things begin to manifest in our lives.

The opposite is true as well. If you walk around with a glum look on your face you are sure to attract a wide circle of other troubled and blue people. The more you focus your energy on what you want and dream of, the more that you put yourself in opportunities that will offer you such pathways to make them a reality.
I am doing my best everyday, every moment to focus on the things I want. It is important to not think about the things you don't want - because ironically whatever you think about also manifests in your life. So, I know the more I focus on great books like the one discussed in this article and other such positive influences the closer I will get to making all my dreams come true!
Blessing and best wishes to all.
