You’ve probably heard a lot about how your attitude affects your life. Perhaps friends or relatives have made comments such as “If you want things to get better you’ve got to have a positive attitude.” You might be fed up with people telling you to change your attitude and that’s okay. I’m not going to tell you that by having a positive attitude all of your problems will mysteriously disappear because they won’t. That’s probably not what your friends and relatives meant either although most of us would like to believe that life could be so simple.
Thinking wonderful positive thoughts won’t dramatically transform your life overnight because it’s not a magic cure all. It’s a way of life. You can’t think good thoughts for a day, a week or even a month and then conclude that it doesn’t work. Of course, it doesn’t. We create our reality through the thoughts we habitually think. The types of experiences you draw into your existence depend upon your mindset.
Our minds are conditioned from the time we are very young children. Our parents, family members, teachers, friends and society all influence our mindset but only we can change it. Yes, you can change the way you think. You can re-condition or re-program your brain but it’s not easy and it takes time. Your beliefs and ways of thinking have been with you for a very long time; they won’t change at the snap of your fingers. Wishful thinking doesn’t make it so.
If you really want to change your thoughts thereby changing your life, you have to be diligent and persistent. If you are a chronic negative thinker you will have to work even harder to maintain a positive attitude. This isn’t an easy task but it’s not impossible either. Generally, when things are going good in our lives it’s easy to be positive but when the world is falling apart around us, not too many people are able to see the rainbow beyond the storm. This is unfortunate because we need to be the most positive when circumstances are at their worst.
Start changing your attitude by adopting a few simple habits. Try to find something positive in every negative situation. Stop saying “I can’t.” Everything is possible if you believe. Make the above statement your daily mantra and start changing the way you think.
