This is intended to be an on-going story line
What drives us to want to be that person who has the most Toys? To be able to Flash the Cash or Blind with the Bling? And when did our language weaken and turn into four letter slang and hand signals that not only look silly but demean the person using it?
OK. I can hear all of you scoff and I know that eyes are rolling, but let's get real and honest, shall we...
How many of you out there really appreciate all of those things that are now so antiquated and old-fashioned that just the very idea of talking about it scares you? I mean, for example…
There used to be a Disease called manners. Everyone had it. No one wanted to be seen without them. Ever place one went, there they were. Like a bad penny, they just kept turning up. In Stores, Movie Theatres, Restaurants and even in Elevators. People all over were passing it around. Doors were held open, “thank you” was not a dirty word. Patience while in a line was taken for granted…
Don't mistake me. I fully realize that even "back then" nothing was perfect.
At least we were civilized. We knew that “Being Nice” to one another was the correct thing to do. And that Behavior was something that was taught from childhood and practiced for a lifetime.
I have a niece and a nephew. From day one, I have tried to instill in them some of those things from long ago. Never really thinking that it would actually stick.
Well I was wrong. I am proud to say, that yesterday while out in the local Mall, my niece and nephew saw an elderly Lady struggle with the heavy doors and without a word from me, they both held a door for her, waited while she slowly made her way thru and then smiled and wished her a Nice Day.
No words were said between us. None were needed.
