Materialism

Do you know if you're materialistic?

Have you ever stopped to think, am I materialistic? Well, if you can't answer that question, let me give you some examples of being materialistic. The reason I wanted to share my thoughts on this was because I went to the store today to buy shoes. Well, I'm looking for Timberlands, and eventually I do. But right beside the shoe box was a boot that looks exactly like the Timberlands I was looking at.

They were the same color, same style, you couldn't tell them apart until you looked at the logo, which were in the same spots. The only real thing that separated those two pairs. The boots were $115, and the other pair was $45. And I don't think that I have to tell you which one was the $115 pair.

That's right, the Timberlands. Can you believe that? A $70 difference. I could have bought two nice pairs of shoes for that same price and most likely would have had enough money for tax. Come to think of it, the “lesser” brand was actually felt a little more comfortable. So, what makes the $70 difference? Same material, same style, with the way things are going today, most likely made in the same place. So, what could possibly make the Timberland boot $70 better? The name. You pay $70 more just so that you can walk around feeling so proud of yourself because you sport a logo that's supposed to make you look and feel important. Well, I up and down that shoe isle and I didn't feel a thing.

I just felt a little warm because of the temperatures within the store. I mean, and I see some people walking around with expensive shoes and they drive a worn out car that probably isn't worth as much as the shoe that mashes their brake and accelerator. So, ask yourself, are you that person? Would you rather have a logo over value? I sign off with that guiding question.
