There are some sure methods to obtain what you strive for. Learning to accept your mistakes and moving on to new challenges is one. If you already know that you cannot count on somebody to be there to help you do something, try something else or try doing it on your own, Some people just derive delight in controlling or getting you to believe they will help when all they do is have you wait. You need not wait, nor fall into their perverted game of waiting for their pleasure. Once you have done the thing you waited for, then you have the positive reinforcement of having succeeded on your own without being dependent.
Continue striving for what you believe in, with a clear goal in mind and you will eventually make it, unless some misfortune happens along the way that is out of your control. It is never too late to succeed in something either. Some actors, like Danny Aiello, got noticed later in life, others were childhood favorites and then they got sidetracked. Better to get some late recognition than to get lost in pile of old photos as an actor that never made it as a mature character, I would say.
Also be positive in what you do and stay clear of people that are constantly looking to spread their misery or have you commiserate with them. I say constantly because I think it is natural to complain from time to time. This might sound selfish, but we live in a world where many like to feel the best way to bet company is to complain and spread bad vibes about who they work with. If they are looking for your support politely say you understand they are having difficulties but their grievance has nothing to do with you.
