Independent artists have always been a part of our culture and community. They are the people who despite the odds, continue to "battle" and "fight" for the love and beauty of their craft. They are the starving waiters, administrative assistants and temp job experts. They are willing to take on these lower end paying positions for the belief that they will be "discovered" or that their hard work will pay off in the end. They are my fellow colleagues and I commend them all.
The field of the arts is one of the most challenging most insecure fields in the career market today. Without the security that if you do the work, you will get promoted or get an annual raise or bonus, these brave souls trudge forward all the same, believing; believing in their dreams.
Often independent artists do not begin to enjoy a real sense of financial security or satisfaction until after they have been struggling in the field for years, and some, not until well after they have passed: raging, raging into the night.
Why do they continue? Why do they work toward a future that holds no promise of success, no promise of recognition?
Because, when you love something with all of your heart, you cannot let it go. When it brings you the greatest happiness you have ever experienced there is nothing else you can do, but continue to dream.
