To many people happiness is that elusive something which they are always striving for and
yet are never quite able to attain. Some always expect it in the future, they say such things
as “I'll be happy when the children are grown“, or “I'll be happy when I'm able to retire“.
Others link being happy with possessions, “ I'll be happy when I get my dream home”, or
“I'll be happy when I have a six figure bank account“. Those who think this way usually
find that if they reach their goal, something else has then replaced it. Now they will be
happy when ...
Happiness has nothing to do with position or possessions, and those who are not happy
now will rarely be so at some future time when they believe their dreams will come true.
History has shown that there have always been those who were happy with the bare
necessities of life and others unhappy, though they lived as kings and queens.
The main ingredient in any recipe for happiness is gratitude. A feeling of appreciation
can work wonders because it is a feeling that you have now, and anyone who desires to be
happy must learn to live in the moment. Be grateful for who you are now, where you are
now and what you have now--- in other words be happy.
