Top 3 World’s Most Expensive Beer

A satisfying drink enjoyed throughout the world with many variations.

  1. Vielle Bon Secours:

This tops the list of the world's most expensive beer, costing around £500 (equivalent to around $1,000) per bottle or about £39 (equivalent to around $78) per pint. It can only be found in a bar called the Bierdrome in London.

  2. Samuel Adams' Utopias:

This beer is brewed by the Boston Beer Company, using the brand name of Samuel Adam's Utopias, named after one of the founding fathers of the USA. This comes second in the list of the world's most expensive beer which costs around $100 per bottle (24 oz) or about $67 per pint, sold in copper bottles resembling the copper brewing kettles which are used by brewers for hundreds of years.

The alcohol content is 25%, making it the strongest beer in the world (listed in the Guinness Book of Records). The process of making this beverage can take up to 12 years, giving it the unique and rich flavors. It is said that the production was limited to 8,000 bottles per year.
  3. Tutankhamen Brew:

The recipe of this brew is prepared according to the recipe and brewing method discovered by a team of University of Cambridge archaeologists/Egyptologists in the Queen Nefertiti's Temple of the Sun in Egypt. The brewery found in the corner of the said temple is believed to have been built by King Akhenaton who is King Tutankhamen's father. This is also the place where King Akhenaton queen, Nefertiti worshiped.

The archaeologists sought expert advice from Scottish and Newcastle Breweries, Edinburgh and the beer is brewed in the Cambridge laboratory, costing around $52 per bottle. The production is also limited and the edition is also numbered.

where can i get the Tut's brew?
#2 by Thats curious..., Aug 19, 2007
I find it odd that one of them is in a clear bottle. der der
#3 by you know, Aug 19, 2007
it does come in a wooden box so i doubt light ruining the beer is really an issue.
#4 by That's Not Too Curious, Aug 19, 2007
It maybe a clear bottle, but its kept in a NONE-clear case. So, I think its safe.

I find it off people would pay so much for beer. It's beer - not cognac, but beer. It's supposed to be cheap.
#5 by Jesse, Aug 19, 2007
I'd like to try that Tutenkamen beer.
#6 by dan, Aug 20, 2007
hey not that's not too curious, no one said beer is supposed to be cheap, just cause majority of beers you can buy at the liquor store are. its just a common drink thats why its cheaper than most beverages, i mean you can get bottles of of other cheap alcohol, but then again you can get shots of remy martin for 300 a piece
#7 by ghet rheil, Aug 20, 2007
Anyone that pays $50 for a single bottle of beer DOES NOT need to be pulled over and booked into jail for driving drunk -- because that person has already been raped, and the night in the slammer would just be a repeat.
#8 by proggie, Aug 20, 2007
But how do they taste? Do they stack up to the best belgian ales?

I'll only buy those beers if they come with a gorgeous babe who will serve it to me and then demand sex.

Otherwise no dice.
#14 by Duke, Aug 20, 2007
Living in Belgium, I should advise to make the trip here to drink a "Vielle Bon Secours", since, it costs only 8 euros for the shown 4pints bottle (+8 euros for bottle deposit refunded after giving the bottle back). Pretty good beer, anyway, but I prefer the blueberry "Vielle Bon Secours".
#15 by Aster Blistok, Aug 20, 2007
I would buy these beer only if it comes with World Domination and utter control of our Galaxy. A single babe won't cut it (Travel to Amsterdam, get bimbo, get back, spend the same - if you are really into drinking beer to get babes.. duh!)
#16 by Siblog, Aug 20, 2007
I have tried Utopia at the Great American Beer festival and it is not my cup of tea. To me it actually tastes more like a hard alcohol than a beer....but it was worth the try
#17 by Gimmebeerorimgonnadie, Aug 20, 2007
Beer is beer. Therefore it doesnt matter what it cost. Jeans. Id pay anything for beer. Probably €2009 euro for a shot of Heineken. Sausage.
#18 by Richy McAsh, Aug 20, 2007
Id like to buy all three beers and then pour them over a poor person.

That would make it worth it.

Beer once cured my cancer

QED its worth tens, maybe twentys of money
#20 by Math, Aug 20, 2007
If it 500 for a bottle and 39 per pint wouldn't that be close to 13 pints in a bottle? Something doesn't seem right here.
#21 by Spootaramus, Aug 20, 2007
I drank in the sun & pissed on the moon & stole a blanky from a polar bear & snapped it at the cops. They gave chase pretty good but I lost 'em when I zigged & they thought that I zagged. Anyways, I don't have time for this beer, I am about fart real powerful & blast off into outer space, man.
Don't try to follow me.....
#22 by ChooseandWatch, Aug 20, 2007
Regardless of the price, Beer is always pretty trashy to drink. The lowest class of people prefer it, I mean any other drink is better then beer - beer is the poor-man's drink of choice.
#23 by sue, Aug 20, 2007
Akhenaton was not Tutankhamen's father.
#24 by SirAdrian, Aug 20, 2007
Bud, Miller, and Coors are low-class beers, like Mad Dog, Ripple, and Night Train are low-class wines. The fact that you can buy trashy wine for $3 a bottle doesn't mean you think all wines are trahy, does it? Lucky for us, good beermaking has returned to the U.S. and no longer is it a universally trashy drink. You can find as big a range of quality as you can find in wine. And there is more variety in beer styles. I haven't tried any of these 3, nor any of the most expensive wines, but in the mid-upper quality range the beers are as good as the wines, and pair better with some foods.
#25 by Juan, Aug 20, 2007
My beer botles were more expensive 3 bottles for 1500 dolars in fines plus 18 months of DL suspention. damm that is expensive
#26 by Anon, Aug 20, 2007
>I find it odd that one of them is in a clear bottle. der der

The Egyptians did not use hops in their beers. Hops usage began in Germany around 9th century AD. So, if they followed the recipe they found, the beer can't be light struck.
#27 by FAH-Q, Aug 20, 2007
I wonder what percentage of those beer's are comprised of urine?
I figure that the people who work at those breweries must get a laugh or two out of making rich people drink their piss.
#28 by ed, Aug 20, 2007
This is false advertising. Beer is not purchased, it's only rented.
#29 by Steve, Aug 20, 2007
I've had the Utopias before and it's an excellent example of the style - barleywine. For those not familiar, it's an intensely strong flavor, sweet and smooth - similar to a fine port. If anyone is curious to try one of these strong style beers, here's some suggestions for more affordable ones.

Victory Old Horizontal (available late winter)
Rogue Old Crustacean
Three Floyds Behemoth

For big-alcohol stout try World Word Stout from Dogfishhead in DE.

"beer is the poor-man's drink of choice." what? I think some of the spam messages have more accurate information than that assinine statement.

I agree, no beer should be in a clear bottle. Sam Adams has the idea. jeez...
#35 by amoosefloats, Aug 22, 2007
yes, barley wines are a great adventure in beer. Once i discovered the taste, ( strong hint of alcohol) and woody fruit i was hooked......
for those who think beer is for poor folk, go to Belgium, land of great beer brewed by monks with 1000 year old recipes... beer pairing with food. Beer is like wine, varieties, flavors and tastes vary. good and bad, we are lucky The United States follows only Belgium with quality beer.
#36 by , Aug 24, 2007
i want a Tut's Brew. It looks damn gooodd!!!

I certainly like to try all beers when I travel, and when and if I travel overseas again I will look for these beers, but I will always come home to my home brew, that until this time has not been topped for quality(my own secret additive) and price which works out to 31cents a 750ml bottle Hick Hick Hick OOPS I must have swallowed that one a bit quick he he he
#42 by AussieDez, Aug 29, 2007
Ps The clear bottle business, there is nothing wrong if the beer is covered until a person drinks it thats most probably why it is packed in that super box. (I'm an ex Publican)

1,000 dollars to help ruin your liver...
great stuff!
#44 by millerfanboy, Aug 31, 2007
I have tasted the beers mentioned in the article. To be honest they all really taste like hard liq instead of a crisp fresh ice cold one. None of the ones above would have with a steak or while cutting the lawn. They may be fine with a very light spicy side dish but definetly not something I would give a friend unless I let him know up front that the taste is not what many of us would call "traditional"...It tastse sort of like a victoria bitter flat with a shot of JD in it....
#45 by 6k0, Sep 1, 2007
Its "Vieille Bon Secours" & not "Vielle Bon Secours"
#46 by PaulBirkin, Sep 2, 2007
Good article and I hope those who think beer's for poor people don't have an accident with their champagne flutes and end up in serious pain - honest, would I lie to you!

#50 by batty007, Sep 10, 2007
Very Good Article...If anyone wants to try these beers affordably, try brewing your own! Excellent beer can be home brewed using easily obtainable and inexpensive equipment. The ingredients get a little pricey, but nowhere near the cost of these brews. The hardest thing about brewing your own beer is WAITING.
#51 by Al, Sep 10, 2007
Hope the Saudis don't get a line on beer like they have with oil, the US prices will all go out of control like gasoline !!!!
Beer in the USA = still a good bargain
#52 by jean claude , Sep 12, 2007
just to let you know that the Vieille Bon Secours is a belgian beer and is not considered like a great beer her in Belgium and if you pay 500 usd for it buy another beer because it is not worth them
#53 by Pat, Sep 15, 2007
I would guess that the egyptian beer is the best in taste, after all it was the egyptians who "invented" beer, they were the first to brew and drink it =)
#54 by Roro, Sep 16, 2007
i agree with Pat
#55 by Cherbobski, Sep 17, 2007

For those of you that think beer is \"trashy\" or \"cheap,\" you should try Lambeck\'s Framboise... they come in several different flavors. The bar I worked at in Memphis served 3: cherry, raspberry, and strawberry. Anyway, it\'s served in a glass very similar to a champaign flute and it\'s very expensive, also.

The taste... you wouldn\'t believe it. It tastes like wine! I\'ve never had anything so amazing... and then you think about it while you\'re drinking it and you think, \"this can\'t be beer! Can it?\"

I hardly ever drink domestics (American) anymore. It\'s just piss-beer and they lose the flavor during brewing. It\'s become science now... it should be an art.

I recommend Stella Artois or Warstiener. Can\'t go wrong.

#7, you may think you're being witty or edgy with your rape joke, but there are actual rape victims who don't appreciate that word being thrown about in such a manner. Why do you need to make such a joke? Do you think those in jail deserve it? How about the rest of society? Too bad rape isn't as casual as paying too much for a beer.

Nice article, by the way. I'm curious to try the Samual Adams' Utopia collection but I know I can never afford it. Maybe I'll take some of the other suggestions on a good beer.
#60 by Nasu, Mar 17, 2008
Do not forget "Nine Tail Fox" beer made in Japan.
#61 by DreUK, May 7, 2008
Regarding posts 2,3 and 4...

It is the oils yielded from hops which react with UV rays to produce \'skunky\' beer, but as the egyptians did not use hops in their beer a clear bottle is of no consequence... not so curious after all...
#62 by Oil da Poil, Jun 20, 2008
It is gratifying to know there are still some beers left that are more expensive than gas.
#63 by Mitch, Jun 26, 2008
I've tried the Sam Utopias here in boston. really strong. hard liquor strong. It was good to try but im all about the sam lager
#64 by Steve, Jul 2, 2008
For those who enjoy flavored beers Leinenkugel's makes some great one's. They sell a sampler case consisting of Summer Shandy (made w/ lemonade), Honey Weiss and Berry Weiss. Not only are these brews very good but they encourage mixing them together for even more unique flavors. The fourth beer is Summerset Wheat which is very aromatic and cloudy. The flavor is completely different (in a good way) from any other beer I've sampled. The good news is the case sells for approximately $25.00 in Pennsylvania (24 - 12 oz. bottles).
#65 by John, Aug 6, 2008
That must be one hell of a size bottle with 39 pints in it. Beyond a certain strength beer is ruined. Half the fun in beer drinking is guzzling it down which is impossible with too strong a brew I've found.
#66 by Jonsey, Sep 2, 2008
I find that a beer called simply BEER is the most expensive & costs $12000.65 a bottle , I have a few left so if anyone wants a couple for that special occasion , let me know
#67 by Thomas , Sep 29, 2008
My grandfather has a beer collection in his basement. He has alot, but he told me about the 6 unopened cans of African beer he got over 30 years ago before a war broke out in Africa ( but i don't know where in Africa) burning down the brewery's that made the beer. The beer cans has logos of African animals. The cans look really cool and very unique and i don't think you can ever find anything like this. Don't know the value of the beer, but behind the history of the 6 unopened cans of African beer thats been sitting in my grandfather's basement for over 30 years, the beer gotta worth something today.
#68 by sanjay, Oct 8, 2008

SAN MIGUEL BEER yes its the best!
#74 by Vandal, Jan 22, 2009
Hey, I like a good beer. But if your talking about this kind of money then you need to be drinking scotch. Seriously, a $50 bottle of Macallan compared to a single beer? There's no question here...
Grow up.
#75 by Toby, Feb 3, 2009
Nah, Carlsberg do a beer thats £350 per pint!
#76 by craig, Feb 3, 2009
If I wwas going to pay that sort of money for a beer, I deserve a rockeater to give me a reacharound.
#77 by soggy haggis, Feb 3, 2009
i heard elephant beer is a good beer from a bloke in swan hill
#78 by Wicked Skillz, Feb 3, 2009

#79 by Fleshy Bayonet, Feb 3, 2009
But could you put that stuff into a mini keg, drink it while watching a 20/20 game and then use the keg to build a raft to float down the Murray in????
#80 by Angelo, Mar 5, 2009
you can buy the Vielle Bon Secours for 29€ in a 2 Liter bottle, so i realy dont know what you on about
#81 by Lionel, Mar 6, 2009

i drank a fine bottle of Italian vine i got from my buddies parent's cellar and then pissed in the bottle before i passed out. my mum saw the label saw it was open so she tried some the next day. when i woke up she told me it tasted like it had gone bad.
#84 by Josh, Jul 1, 2009
All I can say is almost all of you are complete idiots who dont know wtf they are talking about. good job to those history guy's about the egyptians not using hops, and btw corona is in a clear bottle last time I checked. If your looking for a very good beer that is not to expensive try Blue Moon belgian wheat ale.

PS. your article is very good. Its nice to know there are some nice beer enthusiasts out there.
