Hollywood plotlines operate by simple formula, as do most Western lifestyles. Everyday, we live the archetypal "hero"s journey': beating and defying overbearing odds, slaying the dragon, getting the girl, and restoring the status quo which we so stubbornly live by. This routine following of unspoken orders is often done by default, because we are born into this world, unknowledgeable of the many options surrounding us. We are victims of circumstance, gears in a mechanical leech, and shadows of what could be intelligent life.
Defeating the odds on a long-term scale has been found to be, according to the word of any experienced slot junkie, mathematically impossible; which is why people rarely dare to question their own goals in life, and whether or not they're actually their own goals…or, just a random dot on the wall that they instinctively feel they have to run at. Western people are instilled with an American Dream of becoming filthy rich with nothing to be done, except relax in the warmth of an overpriced hot tub. This raises a question: Is life worth fighting for?
It seems that, without proper pocket-lining bills, people will work themselves into misery. The working class continues to work, because they're under the impression that the "rags-to-riches" story will come true for them; and if they push their bodies hard enough, they might just get a piece of the proverbial pie. People will fight like wild boars for their money, yet when it comes to basic survival skills which, by definition, sustain life, they find themselves completely useless. In this modern Urban Jungle Age, humans have lost their ability to act on their primal instincts, such as killing for food, mating to multiply, and fighting to survive. Even if life is worth fighting for, how is it humanly possible? Is it humanly possible? Or is it a fight that only wild animals can cope with?
Slaying the dragon and getting the girl are tasks best left for the likes of federal government, as it's the only organization to officially declare what is evil in the world. Communism, gay marriage, and nuclear weapons: all of them are legs of the Axis of Evil. Anything that can possibly threaten our head-in-the-sand way of life is automatically registered into the Axis. Without an enemy to strive against, there is a lack of unity amongst us; therefore we have the mental necessity of evil.
Status quo is an oxymoron for any real human, because it's ever-changing and, if there's any life actually going on, pretty boring. Yet, without any hesitation, people will kill to keep its existence. The Amish, with their stationary position in the world, are somehow able to keep afloat even if someone interferes with their realm of purity. When a disgruntled truck driver shoots five of their children, they look at the situation through a completely different lens than we do. While most of us would jump to hatred, they hand out forgiveness, because they understand the human condition; our dependence on evil; our need for greed; and our inability to fight. They have taken the path of most resistance, something which is seemingly impossible to the rest of us, because we aren't willing to take the risks involved. Living is a gamble worth taking, as it's the only thing that can give us our promised release; our freedom of choice; and our freedom of mind. In order to truly live, we must be trailblazers on the path of most resistance.
