Decisions are hard to make. The proper tools can help us to be sure to make decisions in a wise, ethical, informed and effective manner. Wisdom also must be a key factor. |
Know What You Want- It is helpful to make sure to identify what exactly what needs to be changed or what needs to be accomplished. Having a clear picture of the problem will help determine which o available options are appropriate.
- After the problem is identified, the next step is to evaluate the criteria, goals and objectives that are affected by the problem. Properly identifying what you would like to see happen will help you focus on the best possible solution
Choosing the Right Option- Make a list of the different decision options are possible.
- Take a moment to step out of your normal perspective. Doing so can introduce additional options you may not have considered otherwise.
- Read through the list and eliminate the ones you like the least. Doing so will help you to target the one you will choose.
- Ask yourself if your lifestyle is compatible with the decision you will make.
- Think about the impact each course of action will have on you, your loved ones and to your life as a whole.
- Think about how your life will change today, next week, and in years to come when considering each option. Sometimes it is easy to forget to look at the “big picture” when faced with a situation that needs to be quickly resolved.
Take Action- Be aware of impact your decision has on your quality of life by evaluating it regularly. This will reassure you about your decision or alert you that another course of action needs to be adopted.
