Video Game: A Guy Thing

A breakthrough in video gaming.

Men and women are very much different in various ways. They are different in aptitude, interests, skill, and behavior. In recent years, biological sex differences have been found including the brain in metabolism and genetic expression. With the the passage of time and with the plethora of technological advances a lot of these differences come mushrooming.

Guess what's the latest in the so-called gender differences? It's video games. If you think that both men and women are equally getting a hang of the latest game crazes, an experiment has found that video games appeal more to the male urge than that of the women's. In the experiment conducted by Allan Reiss and colleagues at the Center for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Research at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

According to the results, statistically significant gender differences were unveiled in the experiment. It was found out that males showed a greater propensity for successfully gaining space in the video game than females and the former learned to do it faster than the opposite sex. The findings indicate, the researchers said, that successfully acquiring territory in the game is more rewarding for the males than for the females. The males are also more prone to getting hooked on video games than their female counterparts.

Video games and computer games have reached a skyrocketing popularity in the highly technological era. However, the reason why people play these games is yet to be discovered. I just hope that experts will have to conduct a research on the neural processes that are responsible for the behavior exhibited by males concerning computer and video games.

Meanwhile, another aspect of the research says that being rewarded by a territorial component appeals to males hooking them to these games and with increased zeal to gain more. Could this possibly explain why notorious, notable, and great men in history become conquerors of territories?

The findings by the group of Reiss could lead to more interesting studies and results on gender differences on video and computer games and other aspects of modern- day living that could further our understanding of how the brain works while people are get hooked to them.
