Assistance League of San Antonio

These 500 or so ladies do a great job of helping less fortunate children in San Antonio. How well could they do on big programs? Very good, I think.

My wife and I went to the big gala for the Assistance League of San Antonio last night. It was a wonderful event and we give freely to this organization and many more like it. This group consists of 500 or so women who volunteer their time and, of course, money to better the lives of some less fortunate children in San Antonio.

There are several things to discuss. The first I will mention is how many of the people in charge of these children have made bad decisions and gotten themselves and their children in the predicament they are in so that they need help. Drugs, alcohol and more contribute to all of the misery. We still have to take care of the children, but I fear many just do not have th guidance they need to grow up and become productive citizens one of these days.

BUT the biggest thing I'd like to add is how much good could this organization do if they were but in charge of much more. I mean like running the Head Start program, the Food Stamp program, Medicaid and all the programs the government has but does a terrible job of administering. These ladies could make those programs run much better.

Our government gives out charity backwards. They can't run big programs efficiently. But I bet organizations like the Assistance League of San Antonio could.
