Free the Children

"To free children from abuse, exploitation, and the idea that they are not old enough or smart enough or capable enough to change the world".

Name of a person or movement

The movement is called “Free the Children” and it was founded by Craig Kielburger.

The History of the Movement

Craig was looking through the Toronto Star and found an article about a boy from Pakistan who was murdered. His name was Iqbal Masih and his parents sold him into labor to pay their loans. He worked 12 hours a day and six times a week. Iqbal spoke against this injustice and was killed. Craig realized there were millions of child labors and this stimulated Craig to do something. Together with his 12-year-old friends they created this organization called “Free the Children.”

What Does the movement trying to accomplish?

Their goal is: “To free children from abuse, exploitation, and the idea that they are not old enough or smart enough or capable enough to change the world.”

How are young people contributing to the movement?

United together as a front, these children educate people all over the world of child labor. As well, help the victims of this social injustice and give these the freedoms and rights that they initially deserve. These circumstances the victims face include hazardous working condition, long hours, and insufficient pay.

Along with these conditions, young children do not have the mental or physical capacity to withstand this treatment. This organization has the support of one million children all around the world helping other children.
