Mother's of Angels Society

A support group for moms grieving the loss of their child or children.

Mother's of Angels is a name given to a support group of women grieving the loss of their child or children. How I got involved with such a group is not due to the heart-wrenching agony of losing a child. Instead it was because my own mother experienced such a loss, not once but twice in her lifetime. I stumbled upon this support group accidentally really over 2 years ago. Although now I wonder, was it truly an accident or did God point me in the right direction? Hmmm, well I truly think as many of us know that God does work in mysterious ways.

After getting in touch with the founder of "The Mother's of Angels Society" in Bridgewater, NS I took my mom to a meeting where their in the presence of other moms she truly felt perhaps for the first time that someone else truly understand her pain and grief. After seeing just what this group was all about and connected so well with the founder I was so compelled to start a group in our own area for al the moms out their grieving the loss of their angel.

The process of starting a group here in Amherst, NS was no easy task and it took two years in the making. Thanks to the help I received from Lynn Roberts of "The Mother's of Angels Society" in Bridgewater we were able to hold our first meeting November 2007. Sadly and yet triumphantly our first meeting saw 10 our of first members attend. If it had not been for Lynn Roberts I would never have been able to pull this off on my own although I worked hard to do so.

You see, I am not in Lynn's shoes nor the shoes of the other moms that have lost a child. Lynn started this group in Bridgewater, NS on March 20, 2004 just 5 years to the day after the loss of her only son Tony who was killed in a car accident. Lynn is like so many mothers out there been through and are still travelling through a very traumatic journey in their lives. As Lynn says, "it's the knowing that you are not alone in your grief that makes the walk a little easier."

The main goal of this support group and branches thereof is to help mothers through their grief, to let them know they are not alone and help them on their journey with this understanding, help and healing. Within the groups there is a definite understanding of the many grief stages that the moms must travel in their journey to cope with the those of their child or children.

The loss of a child has to be the most devastating, heart-wrenching agony a parent could possibly go through. For men too suffer immensely from the loss of their child, however as with many emotions as old as time itself, men or a great percentage of them are unable to share these emotions openly in a forum such as the support group mentioned for the moms. Many men cope in silence while others cannot cope at all. Their emotions come off in so many aspects of their lives be it in their job performances, intimacies or in the way they deal with anger management.

The Mother's Of Angels Society is a registered non-profit group which relies on the generation donations of it's communities. Monies raised to date have been used to purchase books and other literature on grief for the group's lending library and other special projects. As well, a beautiful memorial garden was created and unveiled at Shipyard's Landing in Bridgewater, NS in September of 2006. Please take a look at

The Mother's Of Angels website and see for yourself the selfless work that Lynn has done to not only run two groups in her area of the province but oversees the group we have here in Amherst, NS as well. Perhaps you too could give selflessly and make a donation to group so that can continue helping the many moms they have now as members and sadly all the new ones they will have in the days and years to come. Death is inevitable and sadly sometimes your child goes before you. If that were the case for you, wouldn't you want someone to reach out and help you? Check out the site, it's sure to touch the hearts of all who enter. Thank you and God Bless.
