Ghosts are defined as "apparitions" or "spirits" that have come back after the death of their bodies. Some say they take revenge, termed as malevolent ghosts and the others have come to have their fun, being the friendly ghosts. So what makes us really believe or not believe in them?
Firstly, and most importantly, it is the tales. The tales which originate from encounters or stories passed on from generation to generation. They are the justified proofs that explain that ghosts really do exist. These are passed on verbally or through books or notes. But in contrary to this, people just say that these stories are made up because they haven't encountered it themselves and don't have any real proof. This, in fact, increases the chances of us not believing in ghosts all the more because these tales are "just for entertainment".
Secondly, in today's world of media, design, music and entertainment, our senses are always appealed to. Apart from that, no one likes to believe old tales. When people want proof, they mean something visual. Famous movies portray ghosts with the right mixture of graphics and music. All this stimulates our thinking and our senses so we start to question ourselves if ghosts do exist. But on the other hand, nowadays, when technology is so advanced, people make phony ghost pictures or edit it and fib about ghosts really existing. Some do believe this but then all what we take in is unreliable information
Lastly, and probably this is a cliché but many people say that "If there is a God, there is a Devil" and vice versa. There are many other similar ideologies in different people. People have their own beliefs religious or spiritual or all around our conscience. However, this idea isn't much regarded due to a significant number of atheists or people not believing in such religious or spiritual issues or these issues just staying untouched because they are sensitive.
There are many other ways as to why still people believe in ghosts. There are people who have actually encountered them and some who probably are psychologically imbalanced. But it doesn't matter about stories or ghosts. It doesn't matter if you believe in ghosts or not. All that is vital is you.
Many people say that ghosts are just us being scared of our sins or fears. Some are just scared of them and so refrain from believing in them. Many say that even if ghosts do exist, they are unsure of their presence in today's world seeing a lot of "fakes" that go around.
This article is not to make you believe or not believe in ghosts but to question ourselves. It's wrong to think that we humans are the only ones in this world but on the other hand it is even right to say that it is us who create our own fears.
Well, I'll leave this question open. Our ideas vary, just as our tastes do. I'll leave with one of my favorite legend cum ghost story. The Tower of London is one spot where many ghost stories originate. Anne Boleyn, Henry the VIII wife, is said to be lurking somewhere in the ghostly corridors of this monument. But here is the thing that really catches me out. This is the ultimate and my most favorite legend. Ravens always exist on the Tower of London. They say, should these ravens leave, England will perish and no longer exist.
