Fear
November 12 1989 a night that I will never forget. It turned out to be one of my worst paranormal experiences to date. I had just started working for a security company and it was supposed to be my night off but I had to take a guard on to a site because he had no transport of his own. The location was in Canterbury-Kent, the site was a newly built car showrooms but there were still a few things that had to be done on it such as lighting and the installation of the toilets on the showroom floor.
The garage or service/repair area was huge, your footsteps echoed as you walked on the concrete floor. There were three ways to get in and out of this area. One was through the hydraulic doors which led out onto the car park round the back of the building, the second was through a door leading off from the showrooms and the third was from a flight of stone stairs that led down from the staff canteen and offices. This canteen had a large window and a balcony that overlooked this garage.
The Arrival
I drove round the back to the car park area and stopped in front of the garage's hydraulic doors, I intended to put my car inside as I was going to sleep on the site that night as the guard's shift ended at 6 o'clock in the morning and I wasn't looking forward to getting up at 5am and drive twenty miles to collect him, it was easier to stay there overnight. We then went round to the main door at the front of the building. Upon entering we found it to be in total darkness, we flicked the light switch, nothing happened, no one had informed us that there was no electricity on the showroom floor so we fumbled our way to the garage/service area. I pressed the button on the hydraulic doors, it took ten minutes for them to open wide enough for me to drive my car through.
The Fear Begins
It was around 9pm when we began hearing cracking and clinking sounds. We couldn't tell where it was coming from, we dismissed it as ''settling'' noises, after all, the building had only just been built. We soon began to think otherwise when we heard a noise like a crate of empty bottles being dropped. After checking that there hadn't been a break-in anywhere in the building we began to get a little unnerved. We switched on the television to take our mind of things but when a loud knock on the canteen door came, the tele wasn't much help. I froze in terror, a second knock came then a third. Alan, the guard, wasn't taking it seriously, he was convinced that some body was playing a joke, I wasn't so sure. He opened it, looked out, no one was there. He suggested that we re-check again, after all, someone made that knock which meant that, that someone was on the premises who shouldn't be there. I argued with him:
''That's not a good idea Alan, the showroom's in total darkness, it would be madness to go down there''
He began pacing up and down, then he came over and began waving his finger in my face ''It would be even more mad to sit up here with a stranger wandering round and you intend to sleep in the garage alone, you could be murdered in your bed''
I had to admit he was right. We searched the offices first, luckily we had lights up there. We found no one, then it was down to the showroom, we did have my torch but it wasn't a great deal of use.
''Did you hear that Alan'' I whispered ''I heard a shuffling sound, over in the far corner''
''Where''
''By the reception desk'' He shone the torch round but there was no one there. Then I heard a low moaning coming from the toilets, just by the door:
''Thats it Alan, I'm going back upstairs and lock the door'' This time he'd heard it to. He was determined to find out who it was, so we went into the toilets, shone the torch round, again nothing.
I tugged on Alan's arm , '' Don't you think its odd, we hear all these noises but no one moves? I mean, first there's a noise by the reception area, then by the loo's at the opposite end but no movement in between''
''What are you suggesting?'' he whispered
'' There are no carpets and it's a stone floor don't you think we'd have heard footsteps moving around? Alan, whatever is here is not human'' Alan suddenly roared with laughter and grabbed my arm, looked at me wide eyed, '' You mean it floats across, come on, lets have one more look around and then have a cup of tea,''
