Sometime in the early 80s I was living in southern California. The weather was great the people were so much different than where I was from. They were very open minded and loved to have a good time.I could buy fresh produce year round. I was in my early 20s just learning how to surf. Living a dream life compared to the friends I had left behind.
But I still had many lessons to learn of course. They would not come easy.
I was living with a lady 2 blocks from the beach in a nice house. She had several cars and preferred that I sell mine and drive one her sports cars. I had trouble keeping a job so she decided that it would be best if I just concentrated on surfing.
That would keep me out of the house while she was at work. Maybe keep me in shape too.
Many of you will see where this is going. I thought I had it made. I surfed mostly all day from San Diego to Santa Barbara. My only responsibilities were to wash the cars and do the dishes. What does this have to do with a meteor? Right I am getting to that part.
One day I came home and everything that wasn't mine was gone all the cars, household items everything. Except the car I was driving. I was devastated there was a note on the table saying I had a week to vacate.
Having no where to go,no job etc. I started to blame God Yes God!
I remember driving down the freeway almost hysterical saying if there is a God prove it to me right now or I will never speak the word God again.
At the very second the words rolled off my tongue, a huge meteor came streaking out of the sky and splashed into the ocean. It was like 4th of July.
The sky was so bright you could read a book. It hit the ocean and brilliant colors shot into the sky.
This I see as one of the great turning points in my life. I didn't see any record in the paper of the event. But a few days after I was listening to a talk radio show. They asked if anyone had seen the event. Many people called and confirmed it.
You know some say its the little things in life to be thankful for.
I am thankful for the big things too!
