The “70’s” was a magical time for me, not just because I was a child throughout, but because the sounds made me feel so alive. I can recall sitting on the davenport with my parents watching the so - called “end of the war” in Viet Nam, watching the protesters on television; while feeling the safety and comfort of my loving family’s protection from all the chaos. Things weren’t always this perfect as a child, there were troubled times; spankings, bad grades recourse, and crossing the street without permission punishments.
During these “dreadful times”, I had my trusty turntable & the wonderful sounds that swam from the speakers like dolphins in the moonlight; to soothe my pains. There was Van Morrison’s “brown eyed girl”, for the heartaches, The Beatles’ “Helter skelter” for the butt-aches, and an occasional Roger Miller “Cant roller-skate through a buffalo herd” when I just wanted to laugh. Unlike any generation since the “70’s” , we as children could associate our trials and tribulations to the beautiful sounds we listened to.
i love listening to oldies;
beatles, rolling stones, beach boys...
