I believe that Christopher Columbus was a hero because he sailed to an uncharted area of the world.
He was a hero to people who believe in their dreams and try hard to get them done. When Columbus was rejected by the king and queen of Italy he didn't give up he asked the king and queen of Spain. He also brought a large amount of the food that Americans eat to the continent including sheep, cattle, pigs and chickens. He also brought food back to Europe including different spices and potatoes. Without him people might have never came from Europe to the western hemisphere, he also started the first permanent settlement in the Caribbean long before the British ever even came close to. He also inspired the world by setting routes that are still sailed today. He is also been a hero for ever to every American and only in the last 20 years has been compared to people like Hitler. I think that's wrong because he did what was politically correct in the age he lived in. also looking back now it might look bad but it was common practice to have slaves and also treat new culture as if the were less evolved and not human.
