Many people do not really know how to meet and greet celebrities, whether its sports, business, literary, political, entertainment celebrities. They just don't know.
If people like certain celebrities, they behave in a manner.
If people don't like the celebrity, they behave in a manner.
If people are interested in meeting celebrities, first they need to know how to behave.
Of course, if you're a great fan of that celebrity, you should tell them. Of course. However, people need to behave themselves. Of course, this is a celebrity. Maybe you've never met a celebrity before. Nevertheless, celebrities are still people. They are still human beings.
If you want an autograph and the celebrity says yes, get your autograph.
If the celebrity, for whatever reason, doesn't like to give autographs, very politely acknowledge that this is okay with you. That you understand that probably a lot of people ask for autographs, and that you understand this. Don't get mean with the celebrity. Don't get obnoxious. Just be polite.
Most celebrities have been taught how to behave themselves, because they meet all kind of people, including people who think that just because this person is a celebrity they can be destructive to them. Maybe you've read articles that make you think this is okay. This is not okay. The press is destructive enough to many of these people, so certainly why should they want to meet some destructive person.
If you are that type of person, then most try to be as accommodating as they can be, because they know a lot of people don't know how to behave with them, and they haven't been taught how to behave.
Maybe you're interested in the same business. Maybe you want to be an actor yourself, for example. You can ask that question. The actor can tell you how they got into the business. Let them tell you as much as they want to tell you. They've probably been ask this question many times by many people.
If you know the celebrity has a production company and you're interested in presenting a proposal, you don't present it directly. You tell the celebrity that you'd like the name and address of their production company.
If you know the celebrity is a philanthropist, you don't directly ask for money. You state that you understand that they are a philanthropist, and to whom to you submit a proposal.
You make it clear that you're a professional. If you yourself have a business, then you present your business credentials in your business card. No doubt many approach these celebrities in this manner. Try to behave honorably and follow the cue of the celebrity.
Also, this can be researched online. You don't have ask them directly, you can research this. Many of these celebrities have official websites where you can contact them for information, including information about their production companies, their foundations, etc. There is also information here on the protocol for contacting and working with these celebrities.
You can also hire, if you have the funds, an entertainment attorney, who can contact them on your behalf. If you have a script for a celebrity, rather than trying to get the script to them directly, you should have a literary agent and/or an entertainment attorney.
You can also politely ask them protocol. Most celebrities if you ask in this manner are available to provide with protocol for contacting them about business or philanthropy matters, and again, much of this information can be found online.
Take your cue of how to behave with these celebrities. Most of them have their own method of how they think is the best to behave with people who don't know them who approach them. Take your cue of how to behave from them and the type of personalities these celebrities have.
Also, when meeting celebrities who are in the news, don't just assume that the news is correct. Many times the news bias and inaccurancies. Don't tell celebrities who they are based upon news and/even your own person stereotypes of celebrities. Also, don't confuse stage personas with real people. Many celebrities are different from their stage personas and their movie roles. Some are similar, some are different.
If you don't know a great deal about celebrities and the celebrity world, don't make assumptions, learn from the celebrities and learn from the people who know. Listen and learn. You can make assumptions, but also listen to the corrections to your assumption. Maybe you agree and maybe you disagree. Nevertheless, celebrities and those who work with celebrities know more about the celebrity world than people just watching celebrities on television and reading celebrity gossip.
