Is It Comedy or Insult?

Why do some comics find it hard drawing the line?

Try as we might not to, some of us still struggle with the urge to skee-ball anyone who tells a snarky joke. In case you wonder what I mean by those two phrases I'll explain. To "skee-ball" someone is to tell them that they are not funny and that you've heard better jokes on Oprah.

"Snarky" means sarcastic in no uncertain terms.

Now don't be offended, I am simply using this article to make a point.

What's funny to one may not be funny to another, in fact the other might find it insulting.

Some well intentioned people have stepped on more than a few toes on their way to comic success.

Some of these include Carlos Mencia, Ron White, and the all-too-familiar Larry the Cable Guy.

Now if you like these comedians, or know them personally please don't run out and say "Jupiter insulted my favorite comic" that is not my intention. I happen to think these comics can be funny at times myself, but sometimes they do take it too far.

People in the comic industry need to realize they are influencing their young audiences.

If Larry the Cable Guy says a joke about the "8 pound water head" which he has done referring to people who have mental impairments,(albeit jokingly) some child may naively think that is ok to repeat.

Some things are funny, some things are not. While free speech is free speech we still need to know where to draw the line. To get respect, it must be mutual, it can't be one sided.

Before you say, "get off your soapbox" let me make it perfectly clear I am not trying to bash anyone.

If you think something is funny, that's fine, but when it insults or hurts another person,

it is clearly not funny, anyway just some food for thought. Thank You all for reading.

I agree with this article 100%. Some humor tends to be cruel not funny. I love humor as much as the next guy, but when it hurts someone it loses its value.

I agree, I dislike cruelty of any sort.
