If there's one actor I can never tire of, it's Paul Muni. Every time I watch a movie with Paul Muni in it, it's a different experience each time! He is just amazing! I have never seen another actor get so into character like he did. When you watch his movies, you forget that he's Paul Muni. As a result, you believe he's Al Capone or Cesare Borgia or Louis Pasteur or Emile Zola or any other role he's played of fact and fiction. As a movie fan, it's refreshing and enjoyable to watch the works of an actor who actually cared about the quality of his works. I admire that wholeheartedly! I can only take so much of all the glitz and glam!
Paul Muni definitely did his homework and research for all the roles he's played. He focused on every little detail. It was important to him to get the right voice, including verbal expressions, tone, dialect, pitch, and accent for each and every character that he has portrayed. He also paid a lot of attention to getting his characters' non-verbal expression, mannerisms, and really anything else he had to do to become the character mastered. Paul Muni didn't just act or play the part, he became it. I am just amazed by how well he can transform himself into another person-not just through acting, but through his well-detailed costumes and elaborate makeup as well. Another bonus about Paul Muni was that if you ever come across a picture of him as himself, you can see just how handsome he really was.
That's the beauty of him as well. Many actors are so swept up in how they look, how much money they make, and all the hype that they forget the most important parts of their business-to enjoy acting, and to care about the quality of their work. Paul Muni did just that. He truly was the “Master of Screen Biography”.
