Terry Fox ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research, the first Canadian to ever attempt to do so. He ran while a good friend accompanied him with a van, He passed through towns with residents that hardly showed out to meet him and he went through others where he raised more money than he ever expected. The importance was that he never gave up even though he knew what the odds were.
Terry would book his own events during the first three provinces in Atlantic Canada until he met an Ontario manager who promised to represent them; all they had to do was to show up at events. This was to raise 24 million dollars. The film on Fox did very well to depict the hardships of the idiot bureaucracy that kept him from keeping on the main highway as in Quebec or how nobody cared who he was at times. This was the underlying theme of the film but is also a piece of what life is really life; people are mostly after their own ambitions no matter who you are or what affliction you have.
This young man ran from Newfoundland, faced temperature extremes and language difficulties but still kept on. He must have been an inspiration to countless youths among which there were cases that had a form of cancer. One touching moment was a meeting of Terry and a younger boy who had lymphoma. Terry donated his shirt and gave his positive message of never giving up the fight against. That is the way we need to think when faced with a disease cancer.
