Today I saw a rainbow. That by itself is nothing spectacular, I know, but it was how this rainbow appeared that struck me as so odd. It appeared in the sky after the weirdest and shortest thunderstorm I have ever seen. The sky was bright and blue, with little poofy white clouds floating by. Suddenly I heard what could only be described as thunder, since nothing man-made sounds quite like it. It drummed and it rolled, and for the life of me, I could not see a storm cloud big enough to have created it. Then the rains came, a light sprinkle that lasted all of five minutes or so, again, out of a clear blue sky.
About half an hour later, literally out of the blue, a huge, bright rainbow formed. It hung in the sky for a long time, long enough for me to stare at it mindlessly before I finally came to my senses and got out my camera to take a picture or three. Then, when I was finished, it slowly faded away into nothing. Very accomodating rainbow, don't you think?
What amazed me so much was the oddity of a storm that came from apparently nowhere and returned there just as quickly. Strange things do happen at times, though sometimes it's hard to imagine some of those things to be true, even if they are well-documented. Like fish and frogs raining from a clear, blue sky. That has apparently happened, if it is not a hoax, that is. Then there are the so-called, "crop circles" which are usually quite elaborate designs. Are they real or are they a hoax? It has been well-documented that such crop circle designs can be easily faked by a group of people in a single night.
There are ships that have been found floating in the ocean with no crew and no passengers, looking for all the world like the people aboard simply left for a moment to go out for a stroll on the promenade deck, even though nobody is found aboard. A person had a premonition that the ship he was going to sail on the next day was doomed to sink on its maiden voyage. So, he decided to take a later ship and the Titanic sank without him.
Like I said, strange stuff does happen, and it happens all the time. Encounters with angels, spirit beings, even outer space aliens, (Something I don't personally believe in) have occured with documented evidence to back them up. Yet we are still surprised when something new to our experience comes our way. this is the nature of the human race, to disbelieve until we see it happen for ourselves. God said, "you believe in me because you have seen me? Blessed are they who have never seen yet still believe."
I can't think of a better philosophy for life than that one. Believe in something before you see it and before you know it you will see what you believe. As convoluted as that sentence may appear, it actually makes perfect sense. We are to have faith without sight, in order to grow as a spiritual person, believing in things we have never seen in order to later on see what we have believed. Just wait and see what wonders may lie ahead!
