Ever since I was little I have wondered if we are here alone. By that I mean, in the universe. It is obvious we are not alone in the planet, since we have thousands of species that live and mingle with us on a daily basis. But is there really life outside our atmosphere?
According to scientists, there is enough evidence to prove there is no life outside Earth, at least not on the planets we have studied so far. They are full of toxic gases, or perhaps they are too hot, or too cold. Maybe they lack oxygen, our main source of life.
Here is my question, is it so hard to believe there could be life that is not dependent on oxygen? I think it is. I mean, it is completely egocentric and close-minded to think that because we need oxygen, then all life does. It is the same to say that because a plate is too hot, or too cold, it is not possible to survive in it. Well, there are creatures in this planet that can withstand higher and lower temperatures than humans. Doesn’t that prove the possibility that other species could tolerate the “harsh” environments present on the other planets?
I think so. I think we are stuck on the thought of us being the supreme being of our planet; therefore the entire universe must fall under the same category. I think is time to open up our minds, and accept the fact that there might be life out there, regardless of what WE need, because their needs may be totally different.
