K.C.PARK has said,"As a rule, the most successful person in life is the one who has the best information." Information is the basis of knowledge and the first step of knowledge, the mind, the giver & the storehouse of knowledge sees through a veil, a screen of illusions, conclusions, past associations, opinions and so on. A well-informed man is called a wise man as he turns information into knowledge, and knowledge, when passes through the process of trial and error becomes a part of the person concerned. Information, as is imparted primarily in the name of education, to the younger generation, plays the major role at the examination and in personal interview.
How can a person define General Knowledge? It is nothing but a systematic collection of information. An experienced person having a first hand information may form better opinions and make more reliable judgments, about people, things and ideas. In the words of Baltasar Gracian-" We live by information not by sight, as a corollary", it follows what Narbert Wiener writes- "To live effectively, is to live with adequate information."
There is the other side of every information also the darker one, which gives the rise to bad ideas and ideals stirs up emotions, and leads people astray. Wrong and misleading information often create frictions and give rise to unnecessary differences, and even riots and wars. In their most modern form, they create bad blood in a very subtle way..
Such information encourages the anti-social elements and throws them in the background who leads life in a peaceful and law-abiding manner. As a result, the media has taken into their hands, whom to make respected and whom to make rejected, whom to make a leader and whom to throw away from the public and these media, often indulge in rumor mongering and mudslinging for petty sums of money. They may suppress the most heinous crime, and can make a mountain of a mole hill. Examples and illustrations are too many to seek or to quote. The great warrior and general of all time, Napoleon, once said, I am not afraid of a thousand machine guns, but I am afraid of three newspapers..
Our young readers, while reading or collecting news will do well not to be satisfied with the one side of the news, but to look at the both sides, and draw their own conclusion. In case otherwise, their future may be jeopardized and success may slip out of their grip. .
In the absence of informations, one is incomplete in every respect. Nevertheless, at the same time, our younger generation should not run the risk of their career or future by taking any information at its face value. All that to be done is to be discriminating in this world of media and kaleidoscope like world of informations.
