A thought to ponder, pensive as it might be, have we as Americans grown weak? Back some years ago our country went through growing pains. Our fore-fathers sought a better way, one that would give freedom to who they were. A number of men thought that dumping tea into Boston harbor was a fitting way to show their distaste of taxes as well as other reasons.
Putting the EPA aside, how many of us would be willing to dump gas into the Boston Harbor? Is not 200+ profits good enough for the oil companies? Could they take a little less and help stabilize the spike in prices? Maybe three dollars a gallon or more is a reasonable price for a gallon of gas but to jump so quickly? Greed is my thought. They know they can get it and most of us will pay for it. Fear, greed, anxiety, worry, stealing and a number of other topics are fitting to talk about.
Most of us are fearful of the unknown. How high will the price of gas go? What will I have to give up? Do I have the backbone to stand up and voice my opinion to the powers that be? (Not just around the water cooler).
Greed, we can point our finger at them but is not this just the result of free enterprise and the law of supply and demand?
Anxiety, I can't pay my bills, I will loose everything. Is this not a self destruction thought? Look at the people who lost everything in Katrina's flurry. Do you think that anything but self preservation really matters? They can rebuild and so could you! Stealing? Are you tempted to put the gas in the car and drive off? I guess those who are reading this have the money or the credit to keep things going.
What about those who do not? Are they any more criminal then the “looters” of food in the devastated areas that Katrina left in its path of destruction after all, they say, “Officer, I was just trying to get to work so I can get my pay check to put food on the table”.
Does the need justify the action? I do not have all the answers but I know if you cast all your cares upon Him, he will listen. I know if a man is hungry and you have the means to help, feed him! Fear not for I am the Lord, I have come not to destroy the world but give the world everlasting life. Words of comfort, from a book, that has stood the test of time.
Have Americans grown weak? I think complacent would be a better word. And complacent could pan out to be worse than weak!
