Barcode Wars

How you can use barcodes to change the world.

I'm an American living in Australia another member of the coalition of the willing. I see the things going on in the world today completely despicable. No need to further expalin if you agree with me. As a modern day commoner, I don't see much I can do to try and change the situation without winding up in jail. I am part of the mass population of the West that is labeled a consumer.

With that perspective in mind and the Internet as an extremely powerful and useful tool, I have come up with something small everyone can do but if everybody did it who knows what could happen. We know we live in a world that is controlled by the corporate state. All our world leaders and politicians answer only to corporate greed and not to the people. So therefore the corporations in one form or another are our enemy. Corporations sell products to us the consumer. Most of these products are crap. You can prove this by going to your local landfill. But all these products have one thing in common. They all have barcodes, UPC barcodes. These barcodes contain very interesting information. By visiting The upc database at upcdatabase.com. You can discern this information.

By checking the barcode you can find country of origin, manufacturer and the product. This comes in handy if you don't approve of a country's politics. You don't have to buy products from that country. Or if you know a company that is destroying your environment, you can stop bying their products and so on. You can visit sites like multinationalmonitor.org get an idea of the moral behaviour of the company in question.

I know it's not the best way to fight back but just imagine if it was done in large numbers. It could actually could bring government back to the people or better bring people back together to work for the common good. I could really see living in a world like that instead of the current one we occupy.
