Foreign Analysis of American Democracy

A foreign view on United States policy upon democracy. Addresses the "help" given by the nation to others.

The true key to any government's uniqueness lies in its creation, and the U.S. is no different. As someone from a different nation with different beliefs about government, I can give a very different perspective on why the U.S. is “special.” What is highlighted to other nations is the country's feeling of being the most elite in the world. You see, this government was created by a process to separate from a country that was thought to be unfair. This gave the country a sense of independence and a right to it. In order to secure this independence, some very controversial laws (for the time) were created in the Constitution.

Having successfully done this, the government started securing other rights, all having no impact on other nations. The problems started when the U.S. started to feel that they could do anything to secure freedom. As this feeling developed, it was used in the interests of the U.S. on an international scale without the approval of other countries. For example, the Monroe Doctrine, which explicitly stated that the U.S. felt it had the right to tell other countries where to send their armies, businesses, and people.

And now, in the modern world, this haughtiness is bluntly proclaimed in the U.S.'s efforts to secure its power in the eastern nations (oil) under the infuriating and old guise of an attempt to secure democracy in the entire world. But now, with this government campaign comes another arrogance; the belief that the U.S. form of government and Constitution is the only one that countries should abide by, regardless of the society's and country's beliefs. Although you may think that only democracy is correct, do you have a right to force that onto others?
