Is America Ready for a Black President?

Frustration over how race question has overshadowed the real debate.

Even though the 2008 Presidential elections are more than a year away, election fever has gripped the USA. Turn on the TV, listen to the radio or surf the cyberspace, election politics is everywhere.

One question that comes up frequently when people are discussing election politics is that "is America ready for a black president?” I don't about you but this question really makes me feel like tearing my hair out and screaming "leave race out of this!" Do people seriously think that in 21st century America we have to debate whether this country is ready for a black president?

Being black, white, brown or of any other color should not matter as long as the person has the qualification, dedication and ability to do his/her job well. Actually, bringing in race to judge a person is an insult, to this country and also to the person.

Barack Obama is a good person, he has worked with inner city residents as a community organizer, has great academic credentials and he is inspiring. And yes he is black. Now if you are a voter, which one of the above would attract your attention first? The fact that he is a capable person or his race?

America is a great land with truly amazing people and traditions. People should not trivialize strides this nation has made by focusing on a candidate's race rather than his/her qualification and dedication.

Great article, I could not agree with you more, but lingering ingrained nonsensical feelings are hard to lose for some people. Senator Obama would make a good President, but with what has taken place in the past five years or so, it is imperative that the next president hit the ground running, Hillary has Bill, a lot of people will be voting for her because of him. Who better to clean up this state of affairs than Mr. Bill, we'll have instant love around the world because they love Mr. Clinton.
Keep up the good work.

I read this sad thought somewhere::::So, sadly, White and Black America is not ready for a black president. No more so than the Jews and the Romans were ready for Jesus.

It shouldnt matter what religion he is if hes qualified. But sadly i dont belive he will win because of racism in the US and him being so inexperianced. Im voting for him though.

I just have to say that I completely disagree with the comment posted on Feb 14th 2008. White senators-mayors-governors commit crimes too you know! You cannot base how good a person is based on the colour of their skin.
Obama should be judged on his qualifications for the job not on his race.

Blacks have not evolved to the point of controlling the highest elected office in our land. You can see this in the way the black youth behave. I think they will be ready in about 100 years.

I think America is certainly not ready for a black president. Well, it could be half and half.

Barack Obama is a great person, and has awesome potential.America, please don,t make his race make a difference in your vote. The color of his skin should not matter.

One thing you are for getting the blacks have never forgot that there ancestors were slaves to the white people of this Country 185 years ago. Plus to them this would mean a great victory they finally beat the White man put him in hi place.
Only thing is Barack Obama does not really have your best intrest at heart. It does not matter if you are black white green or purple. If you think thingsare bad now wait until Obama gets in and he will by a total land slide. I told people at work our next president would be black.
One thing is he is not just black but he is a muslem regardless of wat he tells you.
If he told you the truth blacks of this Country would not even vote for him.
Be very careful what you wish for you just might get it and it won't be as good as you thougt it would be.
