Even though the 2008 Presidential elections are more than a year away, election fever has gripped the USA. Turn on the TV, listen to the radio or surf the cyberspace, election politics is everywhere.
One question that comes up frequently when people are discussing election politics is that "is America ready for a black president?” I don't about you but this question really makes me feel like tearing my hair out and screaming "leave race out of this!" Do people seriously think that in 21st century America we have to debate whether this country is ready for a black president?
Being black, white, brown or of any other color should not matter as long as the person has the qualification, dedication and ability to do his/her job well. Actually, bringing in race to judge a person is an insult, to this country and also to the person.
Barack Obama is a good person, he has worked with inner city residents as a community organizer, has great academic credentials and he is inspiring. And yes he is black. Now if you are a voter, which one of the above would attract your attention first? The fact that he is a capable person or his race?
America is a great land with truly amazing people and traditions. People should not trivialize strides this nation has made by focusing on a candidate's race rather than his/her qualification and dedication.
Keep up the good work.
