Mayor Bloomberg, it has been reported, by at least two sources, has
decided not to enter the 2008 presidential race. If you listen very closely,
you might hear a huge sigh of relief from the Democratic party. On the
other side of the political spectrum, you might also hear a very mournful
groan from the Republicans who were hoping that Mr. Bloomberg would
jump in and push the election over to their side of the chart. Many leaders
in the republican masses were looking forward to Mr. Bloomberg siphoning
off votes from whomever the democratic nominee would be in the general
election and hopefully moving the election to the red side of the blotter.
Naturally, the Democrats are breathing a little easier for the moment, now
that Mr. Bloomberg has made his decision not to throw his multi-billion
dollar hat into the ring. When the election in 1992 was between Bill Clinton
and George H.W. Bush, the democratic party benefited when Ross Perot dived
in and pulled votes from Mr. Bush thus assuring Mr. Clinton of the presidency.
As with Ralph Nader taking approximately ninety-four thousand votes away
from Al Gore in Florida, and the election winding up with Mr. Gore losing
Florida by about five thousand votes, and thereby causing the election of
George W. Bush in 2000, thanks to Mr. Nader. Mr. Nader is again considering
a run for the presidency in 2008. He must think that he contributed such immense
improvement to the state of affairs in the country, that he has to try it again and
really fix the nation with his convoluted thinking, which has only resulted in
quite a mess according to some people but not so bad according to those who
are prospering and conducting business as usual without a care in this world.
In my little tiny opinion Mr. Nader doesn't have a marshmallow's chance in a
hurricane, of winning the presidency, now or never. Such a waste of time, money
and effort on the part of someone supposedly so smart but so into stoking his own
ego. But this is a democracy where those who want to and can, pursue their dreams,
no matter how impossible. Everyone should try to reach their goals, but put a little
realism in the mix, reality is always a good checkpoint.
This time, things are at a crucial point, with the country needing someone at the
helm who is able, through whatever reasonable, sensible and intelligent means,
to unite the country, to raise the bar through transparency of government. Someone
who will have respect for the laws of the land and respect for the people they govern
instead of distain. Someone who is not intent on dividing and conquering, where
one segment of the country is disregarded, or whenever someone goes to a rally
wearing a tee-shirt that does not agree with the sentiments of the party in power,
they are not arrested and have to sue and subsequently win eighty-thousand dollars,
because their constitutional rights were violated. These things tend to tear down
the foundation upon which the country was built and the tenets were written. Take
the demise of the writ of Habeas Corpus under the guise of the Patriot Act, meant
to protect the country from those who want to harm Americans, but in reality took
away the rights of American citizens, whether intentionally or unintentionally
Congress is in the process of reinstating those rights, if they have not already done
so. Scary times indeed, it's as if we went back in time, before the constitution was
was written. But most people were not even paying attention, too busy trying to
feed and clothe their kids and keep their head above water.
That's why we need a healer in the worst way. So the fact that Mr. Bloomberg has,
if it is true, decided not jump into the 2008 election, maybe, will insure that the
best person, who should win, will win and we won't have this disjointed movement
of pushing an election one way or another based on spoilers. Please, no skunks at
the garden party this time around.
I am going to visit thesite. Thanks again. Take care.
