Obama came out ahead in Iowa… now we shall see how New Hampshire responds. Who will our next president be? What makes us vote for our future leader of America? “Words do inspire”, Obama proclaimed. There is a truth to this that one cannot deny.
In a recent Sociology class, my professor asked, “What makes a social movement successful?”. The overwhelming response was a charismatic leader. Yes one must have an initial unrest, funding, media coverage, government backing, among other things. Still, across the board almost everyone agreed that a powerful speaker who can get the crowd going is the strongest influence.
Think back to some of the most powerful leaders of all time, good or bad, who were able to spellbind a crowd and had the masses chasing after them. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King, Jr., and even Hitler, were able to lead for one important reason if none other… they were incredible, persuasive, and charismatic speakers who became leaders.
So yes, words do inspire. Will this presidential campaign be won on grounds of a leader who eloquently speaks of change, is soft spoken, but can also lead by his inspiring words of a new America? Will Obama be our new leader? I believe this has become a great possibility. He speaks of a change that America is in need of. He also has the backing of Oprah, who is a major influence for many. Talk about a charismatic leader! Oprah's praises of Obama have not gone unheard.
Our country is tired of a war that most believe has been waged for ulterior motives. A number of people also believe that they have been lied to, secrets have been kept, and that major change is the most important factor in turning our country around in such turbulent times. Does this automatically ruin the chances for a Republican to make his way to office or do the Republic candidates still have a chance?
If history continues to repeat itself and Obama is right, the one shall only have to listen for the most powerful, spellbinding speaker of this campaign to find out who will next sit in the White House as our leader for the next four years.
