A new political party has been created in the Netherlands. The PNVD party is named after the Dutch acronym for Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity. The party sparked outrage when it proclaimed its existence in late May and inspired many opponents to combat them.
What is so offensive about a party with such a wonderful name, that campaigners want it banned, you might ask?
Sex with minors?
The PNVD party advocates legalizing sex between adults and children above the age of 12 and legalize child pornography and sex with animals. Moreover, “the age of 12 is just a compromise”, one of the PNVD founders admitted in the Dutch news program “Netwerk”, our ultimate goal is to lower the legal age to 0 but we take small steps..” This pedophile agenda of the PNVD resulted in heavy resistance against their ideas in the Netherlands.
"We discussed the possibility of just ignoring them, because after all, what they want is attention and this is giving it to them," said Martine van den Roovaart of No Kidding, a group that combats child abuse.
"But you have to show that you oppose it," she said. "You have to show it, otherwise people will think it's normal that you can have a conversation about it."
Opponents also asked the Hague court to bar the PNVD from registering for national elections in November, saying that children should not be exposed to the party's platform. The Dutch court rejected an attempt by campaigners to ban the PNVD. Prosecutors declined to prosecute its members as a threat to public order.
"Freedom of expression, freedom of association, including the freedom to set up a political party, can be seen as the basis for a democratic society," Judge H Hofhuis said in his ruling.
PNVD will never take seat in parliament
The PNVD is now free to stand in the November general election if it meets the usual requirements of submitting a list of candidates and providing the signature of at least 500 supporters. In “Netwerk” the PNVD, which has only three known members, publicly admitted they will never be able to reach the 500 signatures threshold.
No one should expect The PNVD to take seat in Dutch Parliament soon, most likely never. To enter the parliament they would need about 60,000 votes and this is extremely unlikely.
Paedophilia is, and always will be, illegal in the Netherlands. The fall of the “Peadophilia party” was as quick as its rise to existence. Dutch society rejected its ideas, members and agenda. The incarnation and fall of the PNVD is a prime example how the mechanisms of democracy could work against unethical ideas.
