People are stupid. Don't worry, it's nothing personal - it's just how it is. If we as people were made to know everything in the world then we (as people) wouldn't need anyone else in the world. But this is why others exist other than yourself, and myself as well for that matter.
Now what in the world can this be leading to? To say it quite frankly: the importance of the electoral college. Men and women (some curious youngins as well) accross the partisan specturm have called for the demise of this wondersul system. Yet who are these people? Defenders of Democracy? The concerned citizen who wags his finger at the stolen election? The majority of these people are your average joes, im sorry to say. These are your bakers, mail men, corporate executives, artists, musicians, writers, and doctors. Interesting how when certain topics sprout forth everybody becomes an expert in political science.
But that's just the point, now isn't it? Aren't there people out there who are better suited to do their job? I for one would much rather trust my electoral decision to an individual who can understand the repurcussions of his or her decision rather than my own educated guesses. In today's society of identity and partisan politics, this is more important than ever.
I once had the pleasure of asking a young lady who she planned to vote for in the upcoming 2008 presidential election. Without any hesitation she promptly responded that Hilary Clinton was the only candidate for her. I came out with my own prompt reply, asking what Mrs. Clinton's stance on the issues were. With much more hesitation she shakingly said that she supports national welfare (though it's difficult to portray in written form, her voice comprehensibly rose as if in question). Now here would be an excellent opportunity to shed light on my own vast political knowlege pertaining to Clinton's views...but I'd rather not. You see, there are those in this world who know the ins and outs of every decision every political leader of ours has ever made...ever. This is the man (or woman) that I trust to decide who leads our country.
Now there are those who would cry, "but that's not a democracy!" But I beg their pardon. The beauty of our political system is that our presidential candidates adhere their views to the electorate; to the people. This way, they present their stances (be they wide or narrow) to the people, while being decided by the electoral college. It is relatable to the all too common singing reality show. Contestants pour their hearts out to the audience, hoping to impress them above all else, yet the judges are the ones who decide who goes home. Now while there will undoubtedly be some disgruntled audience members, ultimately the judges know better because IT'S WHAT THEY DO. We need to let people do their job. Must I remind you of the horrors when the people voted in season six of American Idol? Unless you think that Sanjia is right for President of the United States, let the members of the electoral college do what it is they know how to do.
