The United States (Are We Not Free?)

The United States declares it is a free nation. This article asks why the wishes of the few are deciding the laws of the majority.

What is happening to my country? This great land that I call “ home.” Are we no longer free anymore? I want to know when the desires of the few, began to be more important than the laws that were created to serve the majority of the people. Most importantly, why am I losing my rights to speak freely, or to worship my Lord, when and where I choose?

In my history class I was taught that my ancestors created this great nation, so that they would be free to worship or not worship in any way they pleased. I was told that my forefathers fought and died so that I, and every other American could have a nation in which we would be free. The United States is a nation where all, are free to worship in any way that they desire. Where no man is allowed, to tell another, when or how it should be done.

The United States of America is a nation where the majority, is suppose to decide the laws that will affect us all. To my knowledge it is still that way. So why, in the last few years, has the will and the wishes of the few began to change or amend laws that affect this nation as a whole?

Over the last few years, the atheists of this country have stated changing laws that affect this country as a whole. The sad thing is that the political representatives that are supposed to be serving the majority are helping them. When I last checked, the United States was a nation of mainly religious people. The majority of the people living in this country are not atheists. Although all may not be “Christians”, most of the people that are living here, believe in some kind of god. And every one of them

Has, the right to do so. Let me say before I continue, “I have nothing against atheists or any other religion.” In fact I respect anyone, no matter how they believe. What has forced me to speak out is this, I am a primitive Baptist that believes in God, but I don't force my beliefs on anyone. So, why is it that the atheists in my country are forcing their non-beliefs on me, and the rest of my country?

After all, what is good for one is good for the other. Last time I checked an atheist can turn the channel of a TV as I can. The same goes for a radio.

As for the subject of praying in schools or the senate, congress, etc., they make earplugs for that too. You don't have to listen to anything dealing with religion!! So why should people that believe in God, be forced to listen to your desires to not believe in Him? Are we not free to do as we choose?

I say to the leaders of my country, “before deciding to amend laws that are this important to the majority of my country's people, have a national poll done first. After all, then you would really know how the majority feels.

Sex and violence are on my TV every day, and even though I feel it is wrong. We “Christians” allow man's freedom of expression to go on. When men start implementing bans on how other men live, then freedom gets lost!!

Wasn't the removal of prayer in schools an issue about separation of Church and State?

There is a seperation of church and state in the US. Although you are free to practice your beliefs as you choose, the govenment can not establish a favored religion or any at all. Public schools are a govenment institution and to support any religion violates the first amendment which establishes this seperation. Some see this as athiesm, but it is also protection. Would you like your child being taught radical Islam, which is a valid religous practice, because you lived in a neighborhood where people were predominately radical muslims. You may but, I doubt it. Just because there is no prayer time in schools does not mean that your child can not pray, it just means there is no government sponsored prayer time. Yet if there is prayere and religion taught in schools it is silly to think that other kids just won't hear it or listen to it. If you want prayer and religion in schools there are options, they are private schools not funded by the public they are funced by like minded people. There a child can get a quality education that is up to a parents expectaion and is not hindered by law. Oh, also not everyone who founded this country was religious some, like Ben Franklin for example, were not. I should also note that this contry was not founded only on religious pretenses, it was founded mostly on economic ones.

There is no hope, so just give up. We are a feminized nation, and there is no turning back until the country falls. Woman hijacked the civil rights movement in the 1960's. It was originally designed to free blacks and other (non-whites) from actual discrimination (like separate bathrooms, water fountains, etc). However, at the last minute, gender was added to the legislation.
In the 1980's is when we lost our freedom of speech. Any thing that a male said, if deemed offensive, became a lawsuit waiting to happen (starting at you job). I am talking about sexual harassment. America is no longer free, get used to it, or move like I am about ready to. It is sad to see this country go to crap. Good job politicians, you're so great!

Man are you confused.

\"The United States of America is a nation where the majority, is suppose to decide the laws that will affect us all.\"

Majority rule is not freedom. It\'s majority rule. Freedom insinuates that those in the minority also have a right to practice their beliefs in an unfettered fashion.

In addition, you should probably read Nates comment, your history book, and your own Baptist History. Separation of Church and State was no mistake and was a direct response to religious wars and zealously in Europe. Moreover, Roger Williams, probably the most prominent Baptist in American History, was one of the major proponents for separation because baptists were a small minority at the time.

Lastly, if we did have an organized religion using our \"national poll\", the census, it would be Catholicism. They represent the largest segment of the protestant religions (25% total). We would all be bowing down to the pope right after the pledge of allegiance.

In short, I don\'t think you fully comprehend what you\'ve written or what the ramifications would actually be. Why don\'t you try practicing your religion in your Church or in your home where our forefathers meant for you to do it. I\'ll do the same, and we\'ll all stay happy!
