Addicts - Have you got an addictive personality?
A theory circulating at the moment is that addicts could be pre-disposed to getting addicted. Here is a short guide on how to tell if you could have an addictive personality and if you could be at risk at becoming an addict.
Could you be at risk?
Many of us joke about being a “chocoholic,” or “shopaholic,” but few realise that they could be sleepwalking into really becoming one. Signs to look out for are:
Becoming moody and irritable when you cannot satisfy your addiction - for example, not being able to shop or gamble because something comes up.
Telling lies to close family and friends about your habits.
Hiding credit card bills or taking out loans that will be hard to repay.
Addictive Behaviour - signs to watch.
Do you follow a systematic way of doing your chores, walking to your destination on the same route? Yes? You could be at risk of becoming an addict. Other signs to watch out for are having a traumatic childhood, growing up around addicts and some experts say that addictive personalities can run in families.
Do you recognize yourself in any of the above? I don't mean to scare anyone. You can totally control this. It's in your hands. If you think that you won't be able to stop yourself from becoming addicted to something, don't put yourself in that position. Just step back, chill, and enjoy life.
