It is suggested for the average person to get eight hours of sleep when they go to bed at night. This can tend to be a problem for some people though, as they have a sleeping disorder know as insomnia. Insomnia is the sleeping disorder that causes persistent difficulties of falling asleep or once asleep staying asleep. While there are quite a few different types of insomnia there is also many different effects to it.
Insomnia is common in all ages, but also it will effect different people as they age. Probably the most common side effect is Sleepiness. This wears out a person faster making them unaware of their surroundings. This can be dangerous for not only the insomniac, but also the people around them. As it makes it more likely for a high-risk accident to occur at any given time.
A major psychological effect is generally brought up the mind in the person that is suffering from this sleeping disorder. It can start anywhere from severe headaches that typically occur in the evening or during the early mornign. Decision making and poor judgments on praticular situations are also greatly effected. Hypertension, slurred speech, and sometimes tremors are noticed in a person. While the also have a forced develppment of mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Although it does effect the mind, insomnia also has an effect on the body as it weakens the immunity system in one's body, causeing them to fall ill at a faster rate. One bigger issue in the mind though is hallucinating, this is easily found when a person in not getting a realevent ammout of sleep each night. Weight gain is also to be seen and rest is needed for one to maintain their metabolism. It is generally easy for a person to gain a reliance on alchol as well as drugs. Insomnia has been costing the United states around 100billion dollars in medical costs for decreasing the productivity of it.
Effecting people everyday, insomnia is always going to be around for many years to come. People will always be effected by it and it will always be in different ways. There are so many effects that should you fall to insomnia you do not really know what will happen to you. Research will still be done for many years to come and maybe someday this sleeping disorder will be "cured" if not controlled.
