Maximize Your Dreams

The secret language of dreams. Understand what your subconscious is telling you.

Have you ever had a dream that you cannot stop thinking about? What about a nightmare that makes you afraid to fall asleep? Do you have trouble remembering your dreams?

I believe that dreams can be a window to your soul. The most private communication between you and your subconscious. So private, you may not even know the conversation. But you can learn to maximize your dream potential and even use them to get what you want out of life. Really!

Everyone dreams. Whether we remember them is another story. If you have trouble remembering your dreams, you can train yourself to start and eventually even control them to some extent. The possibilities are as endless as dreams themselves.

They are a gift you give yourself so why not use that gift to help yourself? The first thing to understand is that dreams are not to be taken literally. All dreams about dying do not usually mean someone is going to die. Coincidences happen, though. And then there is the controversial "psychic" dream. But that is for another article. For now, I am talking about your average dream, or nightmare as the case may be.

Before we can figure out what a dream is telling us, we need to remember the dream. Here are some tips to help you do that:

Make a Conscious Effort

Before you go to sleep, tell yourself that you are going to remember your dream. Say it out loud if you must. Think about if for a while. Eventually you will fall asleep. With that last thought on your mind, you will begin to remember. It may take a few nights but it will happen.

Be Prepared

Keep a journal and a pen by your bedside. Dreams can happen anytime! When you wake from a dream, before you open your eyes, just reflect for a second. Grab your paper and pen and start writing. Even if you keep your eyes closed, write it down! It will be sloppy but it will remind you when you fully awaken.

Be Specific

Everything in your dream is important. Colors, feelings, people, places, etc. Don't overlook anything. Remember to write it all down.

Keep an Open Mind

Don't dismiss a dream as irrelevant. Dreams are a reflection of our lives. We can work through some problems and become better for it through our dreams.

Keep Learning

Some dream interpretations are standard for each dream. As I stated earlier, dreaming of death does not mean that someone will die. Usually, death in a dream is some kind of rebirth, newness or cleansing. Leaving the old behind and starting fresh. It does not hurt to learn what some standard interpretations mean. Keeping in mind that your dream is personal to YOU.

Did you know that some employers may ask you what you dream about during an interview? Your answer can be very telling to them. More so than what schools you attended. They are an insight into your subconscious. Your true nature. It would be wise to understand what you are saying to them and use it to your advantage.

Another thing to remember is that the people in your dreams are usually all relating back to you. In other words, they all have some quality that you either want, admire or already have and they represent that part of you.

If you have a recurrent dream that is a sure sign that there is something you need to work through. If you have a nightmare, you can empower yourself to approach your "monster" and work it out in your dream. I think you will find that as you develop your skill, you will start to find yourself changing as well.

Sweet Dreams!
