Ostrich Logic

How many of you have ever been the unwitting victim of what I like to call: Ostrich Logic?

Well, have you ever witnessed a small child that, when they cover their eyes with their own hands, they think that you cannot see them? That is an example of Ostrich Logic.

I call it such because an Ostrich, as a defense mechanism, will stick its head into the earth when it is scared. How ridiculous! It seems like so many people use the same sort of logic in every day situations. If you get reprimanded at work, it's easy to place the blame on someone else. Now, I'm not saying that I am perfect, far from it, but this is a dangerous type of logic that can really damage mentality.

If you have a goal to be someone or something great in life, it is important to flush this thought process. It is a common misconception that it is easier to find something to blame, rather than look inward and try to correct the issue yourself. I am not saying that everything is your fault, but you may be a contributing factor to each problem you face.

Have you ever read the writing of a critic? I heard a mentor of mine say once: “Nobody has ever erected a statue to a critic.” I think that advice is infallible. Why does society pay people to criticize the creative ideas of other people? That makes absolutely no sense at all. It applies to people who won't see a movie because somebody else didn't like the film. It applies to the same people who have a stock investment in company A and still buy company B's products because they are “cheaper.” It's all Ostrich Logic.

The point is that this thought process is backwards and more accurately, idiotic. If you are unwilling to change yourself, you will always blame other people. Most people are concerned with the opinions of others, but in reality most people that you see are more concerned with your opinion of them. So, if you flush their opinion of you that is a major victory! Please don't think that I am using this article to criticize anyone. In fact, I hope you find the message positive and helpful with some application to your own life.

I know that since I changed my thought process, I have been doing better at work. My relationships, self-confidence and business have all improved dramatically. I sincerely hope that if this article makes you uncomfortable that you change something, because, in my humble but accurate opinion, this writing is the truth. I cannot even begin to explain the benefit of changing and growing all of the time. If you aren't changing, you are truly dying.
