Why Do People Always Want What They Cannot Have?

I take a time to think why people always want more.

Why do people always want what they cannot have? This is a question that I have heard many times through the course of my life. I believe that people do this because it is in our very roots to do so. Whether this is a curse or a blessing, it all depends what we do with the urge to have what we cannot have. It could be a curse set upon man because it brings us the terrible feelings of greed and selfishness, but it can also be a gift because it fills our souls with hope to have a better tomorrow.

So why do people really have this feeling to want more? I believe it is because they feel that they have to do something to prove that they exist, whether ill or good. There are many records in ancient legends that delicates humans as selfish creatures that only want more so this nature for us to want more has been around for many years. While some legends portray the human being as a selfish and greedy creature, some legends portrays us as creatures filled with hope that the sun will shine more brightly tomorrow.

Not only is this characteristic found in legends, it is also found through the course of our very history. One example was King Phillip of Spain, he wanted eternal youth and sent many explorers to find it, but it was something he knew that he could never have. These were all examples that support my belief why people always want what they cannot have.
