Friendship is often like a flower. It grows, looks beautiful and sadly, it dies. The same can be true of friendships we form if we do not nurture and protect them from wilting. For those who live a lonely life, making friends may be something they find difficult. There are a variety of way to make friends, though some are shallow and definitely not to be recommended if we want genuine, long-lasting friendships.
Be Friendly
Being a friendly kind of person will attract you to other people. Outgoing people tend to make more friends than those who are timid and shy.
Acts of Kindness
Performing genuine acts of kindness for others will make you the kind of person people want to spend time with. It does not have to be anything outstanding but even small things done to help others will make you a magnet for new friends.
Buy Friends
You could try to buy new friends by splashing cash on them. This will definitely attract people to you but probably not for the right reasons. Experience has shown that when the money runs out, so do the new found friends.
Flattery
Flattery is an insincere form of praise that people will love to hear and this may attract them to you. Of course all you are doing is lying to someone about their qualites and if this is necessary to win a new friend it is every sad day.
Help in Times of Need
When trouble comes, people need friends who will be there to assist. Some so-called friends are only of the fair weather variety but a true friend is there through thick and thin.
Listen When Others Speak
No-one is attracted to the loudmouth who always wats to talk about their favorite subject - self. If you listen to others rather than dominate the conversation, this will give the impression you are interested in them.
Avoid Hypocrisy
Don't talk behind others backs as this will soon become known. Friends often talk about one another disparagingly and this is sure fire way to lose any prospective friends.
Keep a Happy Disposition
Nobody likes a grump. If you are always complaining about your lot in life, people will not want to be in your company very often.
Communicate
Friends speak to one another on a regular basis. Keeping the lines of communication open is a sign that you value the friendship. Silence gives the opposite impression.
Work at It
Work to keep your friendships alive. Don't become so busy in life that you forget your friends, allowing the relationship to wither and die.
Friendship is something to be treasured and there are so many positive things you can do to make new friends and keep old friendships alive.
