17 Songs for Sensual Lovemaking

Not all songs are conducive to romance. Here are a few to get you started if you are putting together a CD for a romantic evening or afternoon.

Music can enhance various aspects of our lives. The right music can create a sense of timelessness that will induce an epiphany, or peak experience This can be very useful for romantic situations. What is the right music? Some might argue that it is whatever music you like. Not so. I like The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Joy Division, however, the music these groups created isn't going to fit the criteria in this case. I also like the music of Johnny Cash, but, Mr. Cash's music doesn't fit the criteria either. Some pieces of Classical, or World Music, do fit the criteria, however, other pieces do not. Lyrics that speak only about sex may be appealing to one person, but are not conducive to most people, especially from an intimate romance point of view.

So, what is the musical criteria for inducing epiphanies, and peak experiences, during lovemaking? The music should be seem flowing like waves crashing against a shore or like the rising and falling of breath. The rhythms should be a mixture of staccato, flowing, and chaotic. If the pieces have lyrics they should be about timeless love, or the words should be obscured by the music, cryptic, or in a language the participants do not understand. Likewise the lyrics should not be so captivating, as with story telling songs, that they are distracting. There are a few rock, new wave, and world beat songs that have the strange illusion of being slower than the actual tempo of the song. Songs with this illusion are preferred as they serve two purposes. The purpose of giving a sense of timelessness and the purpose of slowing down climax and prolonging the experience.

When a couple are first together every sexual experience may seem significant, however over time that can wane, these songs are set to enhance your relationship and bring back that early romance. Although some songs that are special to a couple may also help, songs heard daily on the radio while at work, or in the car, won't do the trick anymore because of association with work, and so on.

Some people have created music to enhance lovemaking, however, I find many of these efforts lacking in soul or heart. They sound too commercial. For my own experiences I prefer to use music that was created because it needed to be created by a artist or composer rather than as a commercial product.

The list below will give you an idea of the types of music I am talking about. Included on this list are some mainstream artists from the past and some obscure artists from the last few years. Sadly most mainstream music of the present does not fit the criteria for creating the right mind state to give a sense of timelessness while making love.

  1. Nights in White Satin - The Moody Blues

A slow soaring song that is a must for collection of sensual songs.
  2. Love Song - Polyrock

A song that is rather fast in tempo but sounds slow. This could be due to the fact Polyrock were produced by Philip Glass. Fast songs that sound slow are very good during erotic activities.
  3. The Crystal Ship - The Doors

A very slow song with a climatic ending. To some, the lyrics will seem strange and intense.
  4. Same Deep Water As You - The Cure

This very long song is aurally pleasing although the lyrics are on the depressing side. A great song for creating a sense of "this is the last time we're going to make love" without actually having to have it be the "last time".
  5. Come Undone - Duran Duran

Another song that has a sense of being fast and slow at the same time.
  6. Fade Into You - Mazzy Star

A simply gorgeous song both musically and lyrically.
  7. Great Gig In The Sky- Pink Floyd A song about death that sounds very orgasmic.

  8. Water - The Sugarcubes

Another fast song that sounds slow, with strange cryptic lyrics that make it seem to be a love song at times and at times something quite the reverse.
  9. Remnants of a Deeper Purity - Black Tape for a Blue Girl

A rhythmic, but, flowing song with lyrics about timeless love.
  10. Breathing - Kate Bush

A very flowing and orgasmic song.
  11. Don't Stop The Dance - Bryan Ferry

Beautiful music and lyrics, Sung buy one of the greatest crooners of the later half of the 20th century. The rhythm section is heavy.
  12. Mystery Faith and Love - Ofra Haza

Middle Eastern music with English lyrics, Most of the music of Ofra Haza is conducive for creating a sense of timelessness during lovemaking.
  13. Drifting - Lycia

The cryptic lyrics are obscured by beautifully soaring music.
  14. Dream of Life - Patti Smith

The lyrics of this song are about timeless love and reincarnation. Powerful music and vocals.
  15. el Pedregal - Love Spirals Downwards

Soft yet staccato sound with wispy female vocals over music that builds to a climax.
  16. All I Want is You - U2

The lyrics of this song have a sense of urgency and the music is soft, strong, and steady.
  17. Christiansands - Tricky

This song and is bit gritty while at the same time mystical. The rhythm is a bit quirky, but, usable. The words are strange, but. hint at a sense of timelessness in some respect.

My list was kept at 17 songs, the perfect amount for making a compact disc, you may rearrange the order, or substitute one or two as you please. Certainly feel free to ad songs or pieces of music that fit the criteria in the comments section below. However, keep in mind that "Romantic" songs are ones that help induce a specific mind state during lovemaking. They should not be just "love songs" or "sex songs". A song that is merely about "doing it" isn't romantic. Those types of songs have their place, but, that place is not here.

ya, its always better to have a CD on, rather than TV or radio, both of which can be distracting, and thats never good.
