Be Your Own Valentine

This is the time of year when some of us lament the fact that we're alone on the big V-day. Here's a tip that can make that alone time more bearable.

There's no escaping it, don't try to hide from it, Valentine's day is just around the corner. And with this holiday, there's the prerequisite advice on how to romance your significant other so that he or she is ready to melt in the palm of your hand or at least jump your bones at the end of a ridiculously expensive dinner.

This isn't that kind of article, sorry.

This article is for those of us who have no valentine and are pretty close to just giving up and resigning ourselves to being alone for the rest of our lives.

I say “our” because I too am alone this year (again) but have learned a secret to releasing some the anxiety that can come from the false expectations of this supposed “holy” day.

Ready for it? Here it is.

Be your own Valentine

That's right. Be your own true love. Many people feel that they are incomplete without someone to be with. However the Law of Attraction states that like attracts like and whatever your dominant thought is, that's what's gonna be attracted into your life. So what is your dominant thought when you feel that you need someone to feel complete? Well, you feel… um… incomplete. You feel as though you're alone. Guess what? You're on a fast track to feeling more incomplete. More alone.

Instead, why not reverse the trend for this year? Treat yourself nice. Take yourself out for dinner. Who knows? You might even meet that special person while you're out treating yourself nice.

Here's a tip. Make a list of things that you like doing and things that you'd like to do. Fill your list with things that make you happy, things that make your heart sing and fill your life with joy. Then, this Valentine's day, go out and do one or two of them. Enjoy your time with yourself and be open to meeting people on your way and I'm willing to bet that you meet someone you might be willing to spend next V-day with.

At the very least you'll avoid the dreaded Valentines Day depression, right?
