It's been said that the way to a girl's heart is through her gay best friend. I have a plethora of gay friends, but sadly few straight men have ventured through their well-dressed line of defense. Some of the men that approach me have actually been interested in my male friends, or were too creepy to consider. I tend to be attracted to guys who later come out of the closet, and some other friends of mine have experienced the same problem. (Understand that I'm making no judgments about one's personal life-just expressing frustration with mine.) In that spirit, I've decided to draft a list of hints that should have tipped me off long ago, but I somehow missed.
- His eyebrows are more manicured than yours
- He dresses as well if not better than you
- He spends lots of time with a single male friend
- He listens to French/Japanese pop, not just the cliché show tunes
- He gives you tips on makeup and hairstyles
- He has lots of friends that are girls, but no girlfriends
- He leaves a party with one of your gay friends
- He knows your gay friends from parties that you weren't invited to
- He needs alcohol to lower his inhibitions enough to make out with a girl
- He owns more than one pair of non-athletic sneakers
I'm sure there are others, and some closeted men don't display any of these. Take my advice with a grain of salt, though. Some straight men really do care about their appearance or are shy enough to avoid members of the opposite sex.
